00:00Hello everyone and welcome to our series on Iftar. We at Gulf News are visiting different
00:20homes, different nationalities to see how they keep fast during the holy month of Ramadan
00:26and also how they bond together as a family during Iftar. We are here in a Pakistani household.
00:33We are in the house of Miss Rubab. She has opened her doors and welcomed us to her apartment
00:39in Al Nahda. So we are here to enjoy an Iftar with her and understand what traditionally
00:46is done in a Pakistani household during Ramadan and Iftar.
00:51Ramadan is a very special month in the year and we are excited about Ramadan. You know
00:57Ramadan is coming and we do groceries together, we prepare for it but most importantly it
01:02is a month to self-reflect, to feel more connected to your Lord. So when it comes to Iftar and
01:08Suhoor, Suhoor is the dawn meal and the breaking fast is the Iftar. So there are some traditional
01:13things that have to be there. You know even before Ramadan started my little one said
01:17that Roo Afza and Pakoras have to be there on the table. So I have prepared, we make
01:22fritters several different styles. So I have made one with potatoes, one with the mixed
01:25veggies and then samosas and the grilled kebabs and all. We do have these many items every
01:33day because it is exciting for the kids and it is a reward that the whole day you did
01:37not eat so now it is time to enjoy the food and say Shukr and all. Living in the Middle
01:43East you know we are all used to this, we are used to all the flavours in the world.
01:48So that somehow the Middle Eastern food or something they always are on the table. Look
01:53at us we are enjoying the lovely Iftar here at Ms. Rubab's house. It is such an enticing
02:00spread right here. There is pakodas as we call it in India and Pakistan. Some fruits
02:09and of course the drink that we start by breaking the fast. Dates, lovely dates, raita, yogurt
02:18based dish as well. So it is a really great spread. Rubab tell us what you have made and
02:24how is Iftar usually? Because we live in the Middle East so Middle Eastern things have
02:29to be you know a part of it and we are used to it also. But when it comes to Ramadan you
02:33know there are specific things that we eat in Sehri and Iftar. So pakoras, the fritters
02:38is a must. Rooh Afza is a must and then this boondi chaat that I make. It is a mix of basically
02:44the Pakistani dahi bhalla and chana chaat. So that is a must for every day and we enjoy
02:49it and then definitely some watermelon or fruit salad and honeys and wraps. So that
02:55is what I have prepared for today. What an amazing evening spent here at the house of
03:00Rubab. She made some amazing dishes as you all got to see this. We are coming to other
03:06homes so stay tuned. Watch our videos on our Iftar special on gulfnews.com
