00:00It must be a big, big relief for CSK fans that they finally have got two crucial points, thanks to Dubai.
00:06Then you were talking about Uttapa and the mistress, Kunal Ticksana, that they are able to pull this match.
00:22Hello, everyone. Welcome to Straight Bad with Gulf News and Mr Cricket UAE, Anish Sarjan.
00:28With joining me today to discuss Chennai's first win is a super Chennai fan here, Arjan Singh,
00:35and a downcast RCB fan, that is Sanjay Markham. So over to Anish to take us through the match.
00:43Thank you, Shyam. Hello, happy Arjan and a disappointed Sanjay.
00:48Must be a big, big relief for CSK fans that they finally have got two crucial points,
00:53thanks to Dubai. Then you were talking about Uttapa and the mistress, Kunal Ticksana,
00:59that they are able to pull this match. Because till DK was at the crease, CSK players themselves
01:05did not have the belief. But in the end, after DK's dismissal, they knew that they had the match
01:10under their arms. And now very happy that CSK are also with two points.
01:17Arjan, I'll come back to the question I asked the other day. Will you change your mind now?
01:25Maybe. If CSK win their next match, by a big margin, maybe. But still, they're in such a
01:36disadvantage of losing their first four matches, that it's very, very unlikely that they will
01:45unlikely that they'll actually be able to make it into the qualifiers.
01:50Too bad, you still don't believe they can come back.
01:54They need to win a few first to change my mind.
01:58All right, I understand. First four games and you're still skeptical because of the way they
02:03lost. OK, let's head over to RCB. RCB's second loss in what, four games, five games?
02:09Yeah.
02:09So, certainly nothing much to worry about, doesn't it? No need to be disappointed. You're
02:16beaten by a superior Chennai side today. What do you make of the match today, Sanjay?
02:22Yes, practically thinking before today's match, I think on Sunday's live session
02:29for Anish sir and we had some all-team chat. In that session also, I kept on telling
02:34CSK might take a comeback on RCB because we are more confident on the bowlers or from the
02:41batsmen. But CSK has four losses and one loss was pretty close for them. They're shown to be
02:46like 25 runs of first over, the last 25 runs. So, that was some crucial moment. But today,
02:53when you see RCB, their bowling was not very, not up to the mark at all, only except from
02:58Josh Hazlewood, our new debutant for us, four overs, 33 for one wicket. Apart from him,
03:02I didn't... because... a lot of runs of 58 and Siraj, three overs of just 20 runs and then in
03:10the last over, getting smacked for 15-16 runs. Hasaranga, I had hopes on Hasaranga today that
03:15he might pick some wickets here and there, but Fab didn't use Hasaranga well, he didn't get...
03:22Maxwell, instead he gave three overs for Maxwell and that time, at this sort of eighth or ninth
03:28over, if you had got Hasaranga, I think I would see one more wicket falling in the form of Robin
03:32Uthappa or something. The time Hasaranga came, I think Uthappa was pretty set in his crease,
03:38he was on 38 or 39 runs. So, even it was more pressure for him, but somehow he's maintaining
03:43the consistency of picking wickets. And when you come to the batting, if top order fails,
03:50there is no ABD winners for us, who can finish the things up so easily as he was finishing,
03:55there is no ABD. So, here comes the definition of middle order for us. And we have to really
04:00appreciate the innings from Suyansh Prabhudesai, Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik. Because of
04:05those three only, we were able to lose with such low margin of 23. I expected we would lose from
04:1080 or 90 runs. I expected, no, we are not crossing 120-130 mark. But the fearless shots that Suyansh
04:20chose that he should be kept in the team. So, when Harshal comes back, take out Akash Jib,
04:25fix Harshal in the place and go with the same team. And yes, the sad thing as Anish
04:30said, DK is finally dismissed. And still, the happy news is, he still has a strikeout of 200 plus.
04:42Plenty of positives to take out of the game, Sanjay, I really understand. Because like you
04:47said, it was not a rout in that sense, because they kept fighting till the end, like Anish said,
04:54because so long as DK was in the game, Bangalore believed they could win. Anish,
04:59how much did Harshal Patel's absence hurt Bangalore? Huge. I'll be very honest,
05:06his absence was felt in a big way by Du Plessis. Because he comes in the death overs and especially
05:12in the tricky overs. And like I mentioned, he has given away just an economy of 5.5 in his
05:1924 overs, which is phenomenal and picked up 6 or 7 wickets and picked up key wickets. And today,
05:25we could see that they did not have that bowler who could come and swing the match their way or
05:30probably bowl some tight overs. And we have been seeing Siraj, I'm really surprised he's been still
05:36stuck, maybe because today Harshal was not there. But I think next match, he should be definitely
05:41going out, even though Akash Jib also went for a few runs. But Siraj has been leaking runs
05:45continuously from the first game itself. His average runs he's given in this match after 5
05:52matches, he's around 45 runs, which is unacceptable for an experienced bowler.
05:56I'm not having anything against Siraj, but I would straight away show him the door and say,
06:00sit him out for 2-3 games to understand because I feel he's a little more thinking ahead of
06:05himself in this matches. But nonetheless, when Harshal comes, RCB should be sorted. But I am
06:10very critical of Pap Duknes' batting, to be very honest. Because in the end, if you see RCB when
06:16chasing 215, they're almost there with the run rate. But the problem is they had lost too many
06:21wickets. And you have to give credit to the middle order who brought them some solace. Otherwise,
06:26they would have been around by 70-80 runs.
06:30Very true. Because by the 7th over, they had lost 4 wickets for 50 runs. And it was very
06:36difficult to come back even despite the heroics of Dinesh Khadija. Arjun, so do you think that
06:44this will start the beginning of a win spree for CSK?
06:49I hope so. I mean, the way we played today, it certainly shows that if Uttapa and Dubey
06:56continue their form, and if Raidu keeps on doing catches like that, I hope that we can get a
07:02winning streak for the next couple of matches.
07:07It's too much to ask both of them to continue like that. The others also should come to the
07:12party. Right. Okay. Hopefully, this will be a shot in the arm for them. And probably they all
07:19will chip in in the next few matches. Now, coming to RCB. Where do we go from here?
07:26What is the... I mean, I know this is not... It is a bad loss. But certainly, when it comes to
07:35the Southern Derby, Chennai always seems to have the upper hand, isn't it? They have won 18 of the
07:3928 games or something like that. They have a very good record. So, this was a surprise, really.
07:45So, Sanjay, you said that you guys take a lot of positives out of the game from here.
07:52So, how do you see RCB progressing to the last four?
07:59Yes. When you compare to the last four, what Anish sir told, I totally accept it. Though I
08:04backed Siraj, yes. Down the line, he started licking runs from the day one, from the first
08:09match. 4 overs for 35, then 51, then again 51. So, that is where Siraj is... Siraj is not the
08:16Siraj we saw in 2020 and 2021. So, our team is like something like one year we'll have a strong
08:23batting. No such... Here we have... We balanced it. It was back in 2016, I think we had some good
08:31team. And this year, we have some good team. But as Anish sir told, Siraj is lacking a bit of
08:37experience. And Harshal is... He has enough experience. He's been bowling rubbish. Let's
08:42put it on this way. He's not playing the first IPL. He's played now five or six IPLs. So,
08:46he's already enough experience. He's bowling rubbish. He's got, as I said, he's got too
08:50proudy. Let me put it in front of all the fans. He's thinking too ahead of himself. You know,
08:54you see the arrogance what he's showing. The cricket has successfully hit his head. Let me
08:58put it this way. I'm very, very disappointed with him. He's an international bowler.
09:03I agree because... Horrible, isn't it? Pathetic.
09:06...through international matches, that is impacting the way he's picking wickets.
09:09Like one season, one international tour and he gets good wickets and...
09:13He must be kicked out. I tell you, Shami, he must be kicked out. Why I'm using this word?
09:18Because if RCB has to go ahead, this man has to bear the brunt. Because every match,
09:23if you leak 50 runs, and when you take one wicket, you show as if you've taken a big thing,
09:26that's not accepted. Put your feet on the ground, things will fall in place.
09:30He should realise from where he's come, not get ahead of himself.
09:34Yeah, I pretty much agree there. I think if you, at least a couple of matches of rest
09:39will help him for... Exactly.
09:41...where he's at, where he's gone wrong and how he has to turn things around.
09:45Because he seems completely clueless and every time he gets hit, he's just frazzled and he just
09:52can't... He can't even come... There's no compact ball anywhere in the door, which is why the runs
09:57have been just pouring away. Okay, let's go beyond RCB and Siraj.
10:07Anees, do you think this will galvanise the CSK? Because first win in five games and,
10:13when it comes to champion's team, they'll be just as far to just fire.
10:18I'm glad, Shyam, you asked me this question. Before this match, I remember Stephen Fleming
10:22had mentioned in one of the post-match conversation with the media that his team
10:26is lacking self-belief. And today also, if you see, even though the match was in their grasp,
10:31they were not confident. That was not the same CSK team which generally closes out games.
10:35They were scared till DK was there. That's not the CSK. So, this win will definitely
10:40give them the confidence. Whether they will go the distance will depend, like Arjan mentioned,
10:44in the next two games. If they can pull off two wins with their batting and with Tixana coming
10:49good, which is a mystery spinner, we forgot talking about him. He is definitely the bowler
10:53to watch out. He's a wicket-taking bowler. And if the batsmen put on runs, CSK will be a threat,
10:58mind you, because they're used to winning matches, big matches. He's just about getting
11:02on to that winning route. And they have got this win, couple of more wins and you CSK not looking
11:08back. Okay, Arjan, just to come back to you, this is just a completely different wicket.
11:16Wicket in the sense, like this is the first time I see you look at Chennai bowling, their
11:22seam attack is not so great because Deepak Chakkar is not there and they don't have a
11:26frontline bowlers like, say, Josh Heiselwood or like Shardul Thakur of last year. So,
11:33they are a bit undercooked on the seam inside. But today's wicket offered spin and you saw them
11:39opening with spin. And for the first time, Moeen Ali opened the bowling for them, which he's been
11:44doing for England. So, then you have Tixana in, then you have Jadeja in and they got all the
11:48wickets in the first four. Except, I think, Choudhury pitched in one. So, that I guess is
11:54the key here. Because going on from here, wickets will start to grip and bite. So,
11:59that could help the CSK, don't you think? Yeah, but the thing is, CSK has never had a good fast
12:09bowler lineup in this season to begin with. It all started at the auction. As I've said many,
12:15many times before, this season CSK has to rely on their spin. And I think the wickets getting
12:23more suitable for spin is a wonderful thing for CSK. And that's also what I think that can start
12:29the winning streak. Of course, many spinners would benefit from this. And although I wish
12:35Imran Tahir was still saying, I think CSK's spin lineup is going to have very good matches from now
12:44on. Okay, Sanjay, any final thoughts on RCB's performance tonight?
12:51Nothing. As Anisha told, drop Siraj for two or three games and add in Herschel in place of Siraj
12:58only. Because practically, when you see Akash Deep is a new guy to them. Actually, just let me
13:04stop you there. Actually, the arrival of Josh Haislewood has had some effect, isn't it?
13:11Yes, Josh Haislewood had some effect. Two overs in the power play. But the power play,
13:15we did good actually. We rested them 34 or 38 runs. It was good. But later on, I don't know
13:19where it missed. Only after the eighth over, I think things started to unravel.
13:26When the Uttarpur got a taste of hitting sixes. Glenn Maxwell, three sixes.
13:31And yeah, I think this is the first match in the season where an individual team has taken
13:36an opponent for 17 sixes. This is the first match, I think in 2022, which has won for so many sixes.
13:43And RCB considering 17 sixes is like it's often too long. There's some change in the
13:48bowling lineup and we'll be good. And yes, Faf as a batsman is a concern. He has to step up and
13:53he has to play three matches. His average has been dipping when you take… Hopeless. He's
13:57hopeless. Absolutely hopeless. Somewhere around 15 to 18, which is not good for a player like Faf.
14:03Last season, he stands as a second-leading run scorer. And this season, he's not even in top
14:09five. Otherwise, he should not open. I believe if he's going to eat up balls, better come in the
14:14end of the season because you're taking up wave balls. Some particular changes in the bowling
14:21lineup and we're good to go. And next match is also crucial because we're taking on DC.
14:26They got back Warner and Anrich Nokia. So we have to make some pretty good changes against DC and we
14:31have to go for them. Okay, before we wind up, Anish, tell us about the competition.
14:39Oh, yes. Every day we have a nice competition for you where you predict the winner. I know
14:44predicting the winner is very difficult. We all thought it's going to be RCB. But Chennai surprised
14:48everybody. But you got to guess and get the winner right. And you walk away with a beautiful kit,
14:53which you can see our fans are wearing today, Arjan, as well as we're wearing Sanjay. This is
15:00a beautiful kit with a track and a cap. That's going to be all yours. Thanks to Gulf News.
15:05All right. That is what our readers will get for predicting the winner.
15:10So let's try and predict. We don't get any prizes, but let's try and predict tomorrow's
15:16winners today. Mumbai Indians versus Punjab Kings. Arjan, who is your pick?
15:22I think it would be Mumbai Indians and they could get a few points on the board.
15:26Which means that would be Mumbai's first win. They too have lost four games.
15:32It could compete with TSA, but I think it's inevitable that Mumbai also need a win.
15:38OK, Sanjay, do you agree with Arjan there?
15:44Yes, I would slightly agree with Arjan here. Because when you compare Mayank's captaincy,
15:49I think MI has a upper hand only if MI get back Taimur Mills. If they get back Taimur Mills and
15:54their death bowling is sorted, because Taimur Mills was so effective for them. And the crucial
15:59times where one team was bashing CSK, Bumrah and Taimur Mills managed to pick five wickets
16:03on 19th and 20th over. And I don't know why did they drop Taimur Mills against us. That is the
16:08only thing I was scared when we were playing them. So get back Taimur Mills and I think the match is
16:12yours to pick. Because Punjab is still going with Wardian Smith. I think that is not a good choice
16:17what they are doing. I think MI has an upper hand tomorrow, only if Rohit Sharma as a batsman
16:22performs. Anish, do you think Punjab has any chance tomorrow?
16:28Definitely they come in as favorites because Mumbai is going through a rough patch. But
16:32strange things have happened. And Punjab must be still hurting from the defeat which they had
16:36through Rahul Tewar where two sixes have gone. So, if Mumbai can turn the tables, you never know
16:40what happens. So, I would go with Mumbai. Just because Punjab is an up and down team.
16:48I would also agree with that. Because it's time Mumbai did something to them. Because if they
16:54lose there, there is no coming back for them. So, it's like a do or die situation for them. So,
17:00I think they will come out with all guns blazing tomorrow. So, let's wait till tomorrow and find
17:05out whether our predictions are true. But as of now, for all the latest updates,
17:11please log on to gulfnews.com and all our social media channels. Thank you for tuning in.
17:15Thank you very much. Good night.
