00:00But let's begin with the hot stove really heating up.
00:03It looks like the major free agents are virtually all off the board because a couple of chips
00:09did drop yesterday.
00:10The first one, the biggest one, Alex Bregman, now formerly of the Houston Astros, has agreed
00:16to a three-year deal, $120 million with the Boston Red Sox, searching for a six-year deal.
00:24Certainly did not get it, but he does have an opt-out after the first year of the contract.
00:29So hypothetically speaking, a big year for Bregman in Boston could potentially lead him
00:36to free agency once again.
00:40Now as of right now, it would appear there's a possibility Bregman could open up the season
00:44at second base for the Red Sox as well.
00:47He was a gold glove third baseman with Houston and has a good track record at Fenway, hitting
00:52375 with seven home runs and 15 runs batted in.
00:58We'll get to some more free agency here coming up in just a minute.
01:01Big story out of the state of Mississippi, the Senate has become the first U.S. legislative
01:06chamber to approve a ban on all sweepstakes casinos.
01:11A version of a Senator's SB 2510, which would prohibit online sweepstakes and increase punishments
01:19for offshore online casinos, passed by a 44 to 1 vote on the Senate floor on Tuesday.
01:27Mississippi is the first state to do this.
01:30Remember, they do have legalized sports betting there, but only at retail shops and obviously
01:36all in person.
01:37Meanwhile, former NFL wide receiver, Kadarius Tony, arrested last week in Georgia on two
01:42counts according to online records.
01:45He was booked in Douglas County on counts of aggravated assault, strangulation, and
01:51obstructing, harassing 911 calls.
01:54Tony, a very checkered on the field experience with both Kansas City and the New York Giants.
02:01Have to wonder where his career could end up after this.
02:04The Dallas Mavericks playing some really good basketball last night, even without Anthony
02:09Davis.
02:10Kyrie Irving has been an absolute star this season for them.
02:12He put up 42 last night as Dallas beat the Warriors by a final of 111 to 107.
02:19Jimmy Butler called for a charge with 10 seconds left down two and a chance to tie.
02:25But Kyrie Irving, the star, will head to the all-star break now wondering just how good
02:28his team is.
02:29I mean, anytime you're in a game like tonight and you're looking for that energy, you look
02:35into the crowd, to our fans, and you can drive yourself off that or get amplified, electrified
02:42off of that energy that's in the crowd, and it makes a big difference for us.
02:46In our home, in our home stadium, we got to protect it.
02:50In our arena, we got to protect it, and I feel like our fans know that.
02:53We're obviously dealing with something unique, but at the same time, we have to put our best
02:57foot forward.
02:58So I'm grateful that we all get to make the big picture the big picture, as they say.
03:04Just keep the main thing the main thing, and just enjoy the fruits of our labor, preparing,
03:09going out there and trying to put up a good product for our fans and win games.
03:12That's what it's about.
03:13But we obviously feel for the fans, too.
03:15They give us a lot of energy, so just a delicate balancing act.
03:21Fans in Houston happy with their first half of the season.
03:23Amen Thompson had a triple-double.
03:25The Rockets beat the Suns last night, 119-111.
03:29Kevin Durant had 37 points in the loss.
03:31Meanwhile, one of the highest scoring games in the NBA this season, no question, the Knicks
03:36over the Hawks in overtime.
03:37How about this final, 149-148, Karl-Anthony Towns, another 40-point performance.
03:45He had 44 last night.
03:47Jalen Brunson made the go-ahead jumper with 11 seconds left in overtime, 40 points in
03:52consecutive games for Cat.
03:55Brunson and Cat talking after the game about the huge overtime win.
03:58It's great to go into break with on the win, no matter how we got it or what happened.
04:04I'm just happy we fought through, regardless of what we did, positive or negative.
04:10We came in with a win.
04:12Yeah.
04:13I'm getting used to it.
04:16Also, my teammates got me in great positions.
04:19It was just one of those nights where the ball felt good, and I was getting the bases
04:23pretty well, just taking my shot and being aggressive.
04:26What did you see, I guess, in the way they were guarding you or whatever it is that you
04:30were able to do?
04:31I think they guarded well.
04:32I think I started hitting threes.
04:35I was shooting from real far.
04:37I got to look back at the tape, but I know a lot of them weren't close to the three-point
04:40line.
04:42I just want to be aggressive in my shot selection.
04:45I'm happy that, one, I can make them, and two, shout out to my teammates trusting me
04:51with the ball in those positions.
04:53The East was led from start to finish by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
04:56They head to the break, beating the Raptors 131-108.
05:00They've won eight out of their last nine games.
05:02Red hot all season long.
05:03Speaking of red hot, yes, the Oklahoma City Thunder did it again.
05:06This time, they were down 21, came all the way back to win against the Miami Heat.
05:10Shea Gilgis-Alexander, the MVP favorite, 32 points, 115-101 the final.
05:17SGA also had 14 points in the fourth quarter, and he talked about the comeback win after
05:22the game.
05:23Just keep stacking positions.
05:24Keep getting stops, most importantly.
05:26That's what allows you to win, but when you're playing from behind, you need stops or else
05:32the game's over.
05:33That was my focal point, and we did a really good job of stringing together stops to start
05:38the fourth.
05:39That's what gave us a chance to come back and win.
05:42You only had eight points in the paint in the second half.
05:45Either tactically or an execution thing, what was it that prevented them from getting anything
05:51down low?
05:52I'm not sure what it was, but Coach had came in at halftime and said they were maybe 19
05:57for 23 at the rim in the first half, and no matter who you play, giving up points at the
06:05rim to the most efficient shots in the game is never the recipe.
06:10We knew that.
06:11We know that, and we wanted to change that in the second half and just control the things
06:15that we can control, and we did enough of it to get a W.
06:18Speaking of big point totals last night, how about a career high for Jamal Murray of the
06:23Denver Nuggets?
06:24He had 55 points as Denver beat Portland, 132-121.
06:30Also, Jason Tatum with a big game last night had 32 points to help the Celtics beat Wembley
06:35in the Spurs, 116-103.
06:38Tatum, after the game, said it was all about the performance on offense that led to the
06:43win.
06:44The last game before offside break is always mentally, I think, one of the toughest games
06:49of the year.
06:50It's a long season.
06:51Been traveling a lot.
06:52Guys got plans for vacation with their families and things like that.
06:59In recent years, we've dropped this game a few times, so I thought it was really important
07:04the way that we started and made sure that we were just locked in throughout the game
07:11for one, because it was before offside break, and then because it was at home, and we need
07:15to do a better job of protecting home court.
07:19All right, now let's get to the very latest in Major League Baseball.
07:22By the way, one other final last night.
07:24We'll talk about it more coming up.
07:26Lakers fell to the Jazz last night.
07:28Laurie Barkanen had 32 points.
07:29All right, in baseball, not only did Alex Bregman sign a long-term deal, also Nick Pavetta did.
07:34The Padres have agreed with the right-handed pitcher on a four-year, $55 million contract
07:40pitch with the Boston Red Sox.
07:42Also, Tigers pitcher Alex Cobb has a hip injury, likely out for opening day.
07:47Signed a one-year deal with the Tigers.
07:49Meanwhile, Anthony Rendon, that long-term contract, over $250 million with the Angels.
07:55Doesn't look like he's going to be playing for them anytime soon.
07:57He's going to have hip surgery.
07:59Been a tough run for him with the Angels.
08:01All right, in college basketball last night, our director, Luke, not all that happy with
08:05the performance from St. John's.
08:07Close game, but they do fall, finally, to Villanova.
08:1073-71, their win streak is over.
08:13And St. John's has had a really nice season, but this is going to hurt them in terms of
08:17their seating ranking, perhaps in the NCAA tournament.
08:20Of course, Villanova unranked going into this game.
08:23Flag had 27 points.
08:25Duke beats California.
08:27Final score in this one, 78-57.
08:29Also, number 12 Texas Tech scores the most points in a Big 12 game, beating Arizona State.
08:34Final score, 111-106.
