00:00Let me just say this if you were with us last week, and I've gotten all the tweets and texts from those of you who were I?
00:08Was very skeptical on the Jimmy Butler deal and I was very clear in stating
00:15I hope I'm wrong and so far. I'm heading that direction
00:18It's only been two games. I'm not gonna do that
00:21I was wrong yet, although I'd be very happy to do that
00:24I was wrong powerful statement, and I'm a warrior fan
00:27I would like to be wrong on Jimmy Butler, but everybody who had any skepticism on Jimmy Butler
00:33I think there were a number of reasons that you might be pointing to you might be pointing to age
00:37You might be pointing to attitude right does dream on and Jimmy do they mix blah blah blah here was
00:45My concern my concern on Jimmy Butler honestly had very little to do with the player it had to do with
00:53the situation
00:56Contractually and beyond it felt to me like the Warriors had been holding this flexibility holding holding holding and
01:03what they had room for was one big swing and
01:07This was it and my thought was oh
01:11boy
01:12That might not have been the big swing that I would take I might have held out like what happens now if Giannis does become
01:19available in a year or two
01:22The reason I'm starting to feel better about the Jimmy Butler deal is not because he shot a bunch of free throws in one-two
01:29basketball games
01:30It's because warrior ownership quite frankly is saying what I want I want them to say which is no no no
01:37We're going into the tax. We're absolutely still have our freedom
01:41We're absolutely gonna sign Jonathan Kaminga
01:44And we still believe that there's room for more moves if those moves
01:50Come available I looked at it and didn't think that was realistic and maybe they're just blowing smoke
01:56But that's what they're saying right now right and they're allowed to go above the tax again
02:01They're allowed to go into the second apron
02:02And they won't have repeater penalties if they go above 200 million because this year they weren't in that area
02:08So I do think they set themselves up to
02:11Make a big swing and they made a big swing at the deadline bringing in Jimmy Butler
02:15And then they paid him and that's what made me
02:17Less skeptical about the deal is the fact that you brought in Jimmy
02:21And I didn't want him to bring him in and have there be uncertainty about his contract well now
02:27He has certainty and he's gonna be terminating at the same time as Steph and Draymond
02:32They'll be co-terminus and so now you have your team
02:36You've got your window now you can go out and spend a little bit on Kaminga
02:39You can maybe even bring in a little bit more next year
02:43I don't think you have the room to bring in another max type player
02:46But you can go into the offseason and sign Kaminga and get better
02:50Around them and give it one last real run for the last two years of Steph Draymond and Jimmy Butler
02:56I mean the quotes from Joe Lacob to Anthony Slater that you showed me earlier by the way are hilarious
03:02Yeah, he starts asking about Jonathan Kaminga and
03:06Like I mean we could read it to you
03:08But the bottom line is is he barely will let Anthony Slater finish the question. He's like Kaminga
03:15Well, what are you crazy? Of course? We're signing him. Well. What if you need to yes, we're signing it so
03:22What it what it what if it costs a lot of money fine?
03:26we love the guy and
03:29quote
03:31And Joe Lacob, it's to me
03:33It's always interesting when an ownership group does that because you're putting that in ink
03:37It's just like when Jed York said it about Brock Purdy. You're putting it in ink
03:42I get maybe you might like people might read it and go. Oh, are you trying to like up his value or something?
03:47That's an odd thing to do right before negotiations start to start saying things like we absolutely
03:54We're gonna pay him and we love him. You know with Purdy. Maybe they felt like look. This is a fait accompli
04:00We know where the quarterback market is the Jonathan thing feels like it's much more open for debate
04:04It is and I also think that they are aware of the fact that not a lot of other teams have a ton of money
04:11to
04:12Come over the top on any warrior deal that they won't be likely to match and you know
04:17You like Kaminga you've developed Kaminga and you've already shown a willingness to spend more money than any team in the history of the Association
04:24Their tax penalty last year was record-setting
04:28Your total bill has been far and away the most ever in the Association
04:33So you're not bluffing when you talk about yeah, we could go out there and and pay Kaminga
04:38Keep coming and go back in the tax. It's kind of what Lakob has always done. Here's the exchange that we're referring to
04:44It's really pretty funny. So Slater writes in a recent interview with Joe Lakob
04:50He was asked if Butler's addition would complicate
04:54Kaminga's future which is a point that many of us brought up like oh man
04:59I don't know about Kaminga now with Butler making that kind of paper 55 and a half million average
05:06I know that's not what he's making next year
05:10So would Butler's addition complicate Kaminga's future Lakob goes why and
05:17Then the Athletic says well because Butler's salary is pretty big next year
05:22It happens to be 26 million dollars more than what Andrew Wiggins was gonna make
05:26Yeah
05:28So this is my favorite. I
05:31Mean, it's like talking to a teenager
05:34Yeah, so so
05:38Okay, so then Joe you're committed to Jonathan Kaminga in the future quote duh
05:45Absolutely 100% are you kidding me? I love that guy. We love him
05:53Where's your answer? Yeah, there it is. The Kaminga is not going anywhere, right?
05:57Unless he gets an offer for 45 million a year
06:00Which I don't think will be out there and they read the market and they understand where
06:05Kaminga's market likely is and yeah, if it's 25 million a year, whatever the number is
06:10Yeah, you're gonna keep them Stein. He actually threw out an interesting
06:14Combination of numbers and years today that I actually loved and it's a shorter deal
06:19I think he said 3 and 72 which would be
06:2324 million a year on average and it would only be a three-year deal
06:26That way if you're Kaminga and you really want the big money and the big money's not there
06:32You sign a shorter-term deal and if Jonathan Kaminga signs a three-year deal when that contract is up, you're 25
06:40You're only
06:4125 right so he's not in a spot like Jimmy Butler. I want an extension. Okay, Jimmy
06:47I'm sure you want a lot for as long as you possibly can. You're 35. I get it coming is 22
06:53So I'm sure he would like the Franz Wagner
06:56Contract or whatever other contracts got doled out to his his class. Yeah, but you're not getting it Scotty Barnes
07:03So you're not getting that so if you're not getting that then why sign for five years? Why not do three and 80?
07:11I don't know example. I don't know
07:12I mean sometimes guys look at that and they're a little bit more interested in you know
07:17Not the AAV but the overall like you say why why sign for five? Well, what would the five-year offer be?
07:25What would the five-year offer be? Well, if it's five and a hundred, let's just say okay. Well some people I'm not saying all
07:31Some people will go well a hundred is more than 80 it is and NBA money is guaranteed
07:37I'm with you
07:38Yeah, I get that he may make a lot more than that if he if he decides to kick the can down the road
07:44But some might look at that and go that's 20 more million guaranteed dollars true
07:48And you know bad things can happen and over years can be derailed and as a 22 year old
07:55Even if you're getting let's say the options are three and 75 or five and a hundred
08:00Well a hundred is more than 75. I get it, but you think I'm 22
08:05I'll do three and 75 and then as a 25 year old if I continue to get better at this rate
08:11Well when that happens and Steph and Draymond and Jimmy buckets are all gone after three more years
08:17well
08:18now I might be in position to
08:20Get a max here with Golden State if I'm as good as I think I'm going to be you're listening to 95 7 the game

08:45Appliances and live working vignettes visit Freedman's appliance in Pleasant Hill today
08:50Warriors live in a half-hour, so yeah like
08:55Beep beep beep me if you want, but if that's the way the Warriors are gonna play it
09:01Then I do
09:03Have fewer concerns
09:06About the Jimmy Butler acquisition. Yeah, and my absolutely most of my concerns were around
09:11disgruntlement over a contract or you bring him in there's no extension, and then he
09:17Doesn't play great, and then he ops in but you got way ahead of that and you traded for him
09:22With a deal already in place, and I read the Ramona Shelburne
09:25Article and I think
09:27Shams and windy they all were kind of in on it
09:30It was a great comprehensive piece that took you behind the scenes and once the Warriors pivoted to
09:35Jimmy Butler, and we'll get more on this tomorrow at one o'clock Mike Dunleavy joining Steini and goo at one o'clock
09:42And hopefully he really takes us behind the scenes on what happened
09:46But once you pivoted to Jimmy Butler you had to reach out and say extension
09:51Thinking and it came down to be two years and 112 million and Jimmy said okay, and the deal got done
09:58So once that was done. I got excited about what Jimmy could be on the floor, and it's only two games
10:04But the sample looks like he checks a lot of their boxes. He gets to the foul line. He makes others better
10:10He gives you some toughness
10:12he can score inside the three-point line where you shoot the third most threes in the
10:19Association and you don't do it that well anymore, so you need a lot of the things that he brought so I'm excited
10:24Yeah, I mean if you if you list off like what are the you know play family feud what we we surveyed
10:32100 sports radio hosts in in San Francisco
10:35There aren't that many of us, but yeah, right we we surveyed 100 sports radio hosts or or Warriors fans
10:42top five answers on the board
10:46What are your top Jimmy Butler concerns
10:50Let's go to dibs on fights with Draymond. Okay, sir. Let me see fights with Draymond
10:58Okay number one yeah attitude right yeah, all right, okay now go to me
11:05mark
11:06age
11:10Show me age
11:12Right so by the way we can even throw this out to two to callers
11:17What are the top Jimmy Butler concerns eight at eight nine five seven nine five seventy so if attitude is one?
11:24I'll just weigh in that's not one for me. It just isn't attitude
11:29It's not because I like I
11:31It's funny that people think just cuz Draymond runs hot and Jimmy runs hot that that means they're gonna run opposite hot of one another
11:38Like I would argue that those types of guys tend to have more respect for one another
11:45It doesn't mean that they can't
11:47Yeah, I mean in the sure something bad could happen
11:51But let's see who's Draymond had problems with before any of them run hot. I'd argue. They're people who don't talk I
11:59Mean Jordan Poole obviously talked on the court
12:02But Jordan Poole was not he's not some boisterous
12:06loud
12:08Controversial technical getting personality and Kevin Durant is Kevin Durant. He balls, and then he goes to his hotel room and
12:16and trolls on the internet
12:18Like that's who Draymond has had a problem with in the past or Rudy Gobert we or or whatever use of nurse's nurkits
12:26Yeah, Draymond has never had a problem with the other dogs of the league. I've never said when is that ever happened?
12:34Yeah
12:35Well he flail kicked Steven Adams in the in the family jewels
12:39Adams a dog guy like I mean he's a big guy
12:42He's kind of a dog it like if you wanted to make a list of
12:46NBA players you probably wouldn't want to tangle with yeah
12:49He'd be high on the list and I know it's hard to say now because he hasn't really played in a couple of years
12:53But in general Draymond goes at quote-unquote
12:58people who aren't gonna stand up to him and you could say the same about Jimmy Butler what he did to a
13:04To kitty cat and Andrew Wiggins in Minnesota and the way he has comported himself in many ways
13:10It hasn't been going at the other dogs and so your point is well taken
13:15Draymond and Jimmy Butler probably aren't gonna go tete-a-tete or head-to-head
13:20Here in Golden State especially now where this is Draymond's team Draymond and Steph and Jimmy's coming in as a vet
13:27who just wants to fit in and
13:30He just got that bag so
13:32Jimmy are you good you wanted to get paid you did you want to go somewhere and compete to win you are
13:39Any questions like why you mad? Yeah?
13:42I I don't I don't so I don't think that we're gonna get there at least not anytime soon
13:46Sure
13:47things will get ramped up if they're not winning or if they miss the playoffs or that they do go to the playoffs and things
13:54are disappointing and then obviously
13:56There's the the physicality of what happens to their bodies as they move forward another year
14:02I'm not saying what could go wrong. There's plenty that could go wrong, but I reject in this moment this notion that
14:10Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green will not get along simply because both of them kind of run hot
14:15I actually think that they might see eye to eye even more and if they bark at each other on the court
14:21That's no big deal
14:22What you're really worried about is something that's off the court something that goes with their relationship
14:27I just don't see a problem there. Yeah as far as age sure like age
14:33Injury, I think that's a fair one, but it's a hard one to sort of quantify to me anybody can get hurt at any time
14:41Right now we're sitting there going boy. We don't want guys who are in their 30s well
14:45Who's healthy it's actually the guys in their 30s?
14:47But the 22 year old has been out for first for 20 games a good point
14:51You know what I mean, so like I I don't know how to worry about injury. That's just part of sports
14:56my concern was the loss of flexibility and
15:01I might still be right
15:03But the Warriors are telling me I'm wrong, and I don't really have any reason to doubt them
15:07Joe Lakeham has always been a spender
15:09Yes
15:10And he has shown a willingness to overspend and if cominga comes in in the offseason at a number that is
15:16Around Draymond green 27 28 million you can fit him in because if you look at your contracts
15:23Kavon Looney and GP2 are making a combined 17 and either they'll be gone
15:28Or they'll be back at a very reduced rate
15:31And you start to look at where you are in terms of what the second apron the second apron
15:37Punishment of being that far over the tax. It's about 200 million, so you still have some room to
15:43Bring in cominga bring him back find another
15:4720 million dollar a year guy somewhere in there
15:50Or maybe it's two mid-level type players
15:52And then you bring back Kavon and GP2 at reduced rate and you got pods and TJD still now you're getting real optimistic
16:00Well, I don't know if there's gonna be that kind of room again like we're just we're just talking about
16:05cominga and then sure there's things like the mid-level and whatnot and I think the Warriors are also trumpeting the idea of like
16:12Look if it's not working these become tradable pieces again. Yep. Yep
16:17so and you do have buddy healed make a nine point two and
16:21He's a guy who is tradable. I mean I think that even when he doesn't shoot that well
16:27He's a guy who can get you a bucket. He's only making nine yeah at his price
16:31He is yes, and honestly you don't want to do it because he's a fan favorite
16:36And he's starting to play a significant role, but Moses Moody signed a very good
16:41That's tradable three-year and 39 million. Yeah, he's young and you can put him on the floor like absolutely
16:47He's playable, and he's making 11.5 next year, and it's three years and 39 that starts next year, so you do have some
16:56Flexibility and I'm looking at what you have on the books next year
16:59It's a hundred and fourteen million, and if you add in Jimmy's
17:0354 I think you're at 168 and so yeah, you're getting close to that 200
17:08But and that's without Kaminga being added in there
