00:00Plastic surgery has basically developed rapidly all over the world but in UAE in last decade or so
00:06it has picked up its pace and when you talk about plastic surgery there are two specific fields of
00:10plastic surgery that's very popular. One is cosmetic surgery which is more of aesthetic
00:16enhancement and rejuvenation and the other one is reconstructive surgery. So reconstructive is
00:21more of repairing, restoring or reconstructing a body part. Now cosmetic surgery is what people
00:28are aware about. They know reshaping of the nose, they know facelift, they know body contouring
00:35surgeries but reconstructive also involves a lot of people who are suffering from say cancer either
00:43in the breast or in the face, have traumatic injuries with loss of skin or they have had
00:50bone injuries or hand injuries so that's also a part of plastic surgery. Now UAE is seeing an
00:56interesting increase not only in cosmetic surgeries but also reconstructive surgery
01:02and it has attracted a lot of tourists from all around the region and the recent statistics that
01:08was published showed almost about 45% of people coming from the Asian countries, about 20-25%
01:15coming from GCC and Arabic countries, there's a good 15-20% coming from Europe and from the African
01:21region. Both the surgical as well as non-surgical cosmetic procedures, the demand has increased
01:27considerably now and now that the people have become more and more aware because of social
01:34media, Facebook, Instagram, there is a selfie craze so people tend to look at themselves much more and
01:40obviously the much focused area now is the face. So with Botox, fillers and certain other treatments,
01:47chemical peels, lasers and all, the things can be addressed. The main advantage of non-surgical
01:55procedures is that they can be done as office time procedures or at the most day care
02:01procedures. So you don't need prolonged hospitalization, the procedure is a shorter procedure,
02:07you can start early in the age and if we start doing the Botox and the fillers at right age
02:13then obviously the aging is going to be there but then it would be delayed by at least a decade or
02:17so and when the role of Botox and fillers ends, say after 50s or so, at that time and when there
02:25is a lot of skin laxity then that is where the surgical procedures come in. Obviously a surgery
02:30will be giving you a much drastic improvement but then it would be a riskier procedure, it would be
02:35a longer lasting procedure whereas Botox and fillers are day care, office time procedures, not even day
02:41care, they are office time procedures. So you just come to the office during
02:46your lunch break or so, get the thing done and go back to your office.
