JP and BMitch discuss the Deebo Samuel trade saga with 49ers reporter Jennifer Lee Chan. Jennifer believes the 49ers would need a package similar to the one Buffalo received for Stefon Diggs in order to part ways with Samuel.

00:00Let's, um, let's go to Debo Samuel.
00:02He's talked to the Niners.
00:03They say he can be traded.
00:05What's his market.
00:07What do you think the chances are?
00:08He lands in Washington.
00:09What are your thoughts?
00:11And Debo Samuel is one of those guys who can make a difference on the field.
00:15Now there are, you know, if you look at his production, it was that
00:202021 season where he was the offense, everything fell and
00:23landed and moved where he moved.
00:25But since then, his production has gone down a little bit and you look
00:29at just the numbers alone, he's dealt with a few injuries here and there, but
00:33that's also because of the way he plays.
00:35Uh, one thing, I mean, back going back from when he was drafted, well,
00:39much champ, which was his coach at South Carolina was a guy who told Kyle
00:44Shanahan and John Lynch, Debo Samuel is an amazing football player, but you
00:47have to stay on him in the off season.
00:49You know, he can go up and down in his weight.
00:52We've seen him come into camp completely lean and we've seen him
00:55come into camp a little heavier.
00:57So he's a guy that coaches have to stay on to make sure that he is
01:01the best player he can possibly be.
01:03He can be a game changer.
01:04Um, yes, he's getting up there in, you know, receiver age, but he's a guy
01:10that, you know, when he's, his mind is set to it, he can be a really good player.
01:13Now he's not a finesse route runner.
01:15He is an athlete on the field.
01:17So, you know, you've got to have, this is why they drafted Ricky Pearsall.
01:21They needed, you know, they needed a guy who could get open in man coverage.
01:25Debo is not that guy.
01:26He's a guy who can change your offense, make defenses guests, but he's not a
01:30guy who's going to run pristine routes and get open for your quarterback.
01:36Would they trade him within the NFC?
01:39I think, I think they could, um, maybe not NFC West, but I think NFC.
01:45Yeah.
01:47Well, we gave him Trent Williams.
01:52I think one thing that's great about the 49ers is John Lynch.
01:55You know, his, his days as a player, his days as a broadcaster, he
01:58has great relationships with everybody in every front office.
02:02And so deals can get done because he is that guy.
02:05So, I mean, yeah, guys like, you know, deals like Trent Williams, those
02:08are things that John Lynch has been able to do, be able to pull off.
02:12But he's also, you know, he's a guy that can give favors back.
02:16So there is a possibility.
02:18It doesn't hurt to that.
02:19And Peter's is here now.
02:20That's correct.
02:21Yeah.
02:22I, I just, I don't know that Debo's the right thing for what they need right now,
02:26but he's undeniably a great player.
02:28It's an, it's an interesting fit if it is a fit, but looking from afar, what do
02:33you think the compensation needs to be to get Debo out of San Fran?
02:37I mean, looking at it, it's very similar to the Stefan Diggs situation last year.
02:41You know, he asked for a trade.
02:43They got a second round pick the following year in 2025.
02:46They dealt Stefan Diggs a fifth in this year and a sixth in 2024.
02:52So, I mean, I feel like it's going to be a similar package.
02:56Um, they're about the same age, Stefan Diggs though, I mean, is, is more productive.
03:00So I don't know if the foreigners are going to be able to get
03:02something like a second round.
03:03I'm thinking maybe like a day two or day three pick because he hasn't had that
03:08production that would be similar to Stefan Diggs, but age wise, compensation
03:12wise, the foreigner is going to have to eat that $31 million cap hit, but it
03:15takes them off the books for the rest of the, you know, for, to get prepared
03:19for what Brockery is going to be making.
03:21Wow.
03:21That is fascinating.
03:22Um, JLC, thank you for making time.
03:24I really appreciate it.
