00:00Hi, I'm Ed Clouds and today I'm going to talk you through how you can claim a VAT refund
00:06on your purchases when you're visiting Dubai.
00:08So first of all, if you're a tourist visiting Dubai or Abu Dhabi and the other emirates,
00:13look for the sign that says tax-free shopping when you're walking around the malls and markets.
00:17Then once you've made your purchase, the retailer will ask you to verify that you are indeed
00:2218 and that you are indeed travelling from outside the GCC.
00:26Once they've done that, they'll issue you with a document.
00:29Now the process says it's 100% electronic, so that may be in the form of an email or
00:33a text.
00:34Then, when you get to the airport, look for the sign that says tax-free refunds.
00:38Follow the signs and look for the staff who will validate your purchases.
00:42You'll need proof of purchase and the documents that are provided to you by the retailer.
00:46Now a few rules.
00:48First of all, you have to be travelling with your purchase.
00:51That means no shipping it back separately.
00:53Second of all, you can't have consumed part of your goods whilst in the country.
00:58That means no chocolate boxes half eaten.
01:01There'll be no refund on that, unfortunately.
01:03Thirdly, no motorboats, planes or cars.
01:07So if you're planning on purchasing an aircraft whilst in Dubai, sadly you won't be able to
01:11claim VAT back on that.
01:13And lastly, you have to refund your purchase within 90 days of making it.
01:17So if you're planning on staying longer than three months, just know that you won't be
01:20able to claim VAT back on it when you go to leave the country.
01:24So that's it from me today.
01:25I'm Ed Clouse and this is Golf News.
01:26Thanks very much for watching.
01:28I'll see you next time.
01:29Bye.
