00:00Good day, welcome to the gulf news update for Thursday, June the 28th.
00:06Here are the top stories at this hour.
00:09Germany became the latest defending champion to crash out of the world cup at the first
00:14hurdle.
00:15A smooth running scoring machine when it won the cup in 2014, Germany now appears in need
00:20of an overhaul after losing 2-0 to South Korea.
00:24It was the earliest exit for a German team at the world cup since 1938.
00:29This seems even more distant when you consider Hitler was then the country's leader and
00:34only 15 teams participated.
00:37More than 800 people have been prosecuted in Abu Dhabi courts in the last 30 months
00:42for violating housing rules by living in apartments or villas shared with families.
00:47A senior official of the Abu Dhabi judicial department said 98 people have been penalised
00:52by the courts so far this year for sharing villas or apartments.
00:56Around 434 cases of housing rule violations were recorded in 2017 compared to 297 in 2016.
01:06Joe Jackson, the domineering father and manager who moulded his sons into the immensely popular
01:11Jackson 5, has died in Las Vegas.
01:14He was 89.
01:15He helped launch his son Michael and his daughter Janet on explosive solo careers before alienating
01:21all of them because of his abusive behaviour.
01:24Jackson had been hospitalised on Friday with terminal cancer.
01:28A crane operator and an unsuccessful rhythm and blues musician, Jackson was struggling
01:33to provide for his wife Catherine and their children in the mid-1960s when he discovered
01:39his son's budding talents.
01:41And finally, the weather.
01:42Today's high across the UAE will be 42 degrees Celsius dropping to 29 degrees at night.
01:47That's all for now.
01:48Thanks for watching.
