00:00I mean just to help us understand and help our viewers understand how we've reached this point,
00:04I mean the ceasefire, you know, took months of negotiations. In recent days and weeks we've
00:11had Hamas and Israel accusing each other of violating the terms of that ceasefire. I mean
00:17what specifically has made things unravel to this extent, do you think?
00:21We could discuss this for an hour, but to keep it brief, both Hamas and the Israeli government
00:29had doubts about this agreement. And that's the reason that while it was on the table as of May,
00:36neither really took, you know, neither really jumped at it and agreed to enact it.
00:43For Prime Minister Netanyahu, the threat is losing power. Because if he agrees to the end
00:51of the war, a formal end of the war, and by definition he would be agreeing to an end of
00:57the war while Hamas still exists, because Hamas is who Israel is negotiating with.
01:02So that would very much risk his hold on power. Several of his ministers have said
01:07we're not going to vote for that, full stop. And in fact his Minister for National Security,
01:12Itamar Benvir, quit before, you know, instead of voting on the first phase of the deal.
01:19But there are many more ministers now threatening to jump ship.
