00:08Iraqi security forces and an allied Shiite militia have completely encircled the city
00:13of Mosul while the troops continued operations to clear Daesh.
00:16The militia has been closing in on Ta Afar, a city west of Mosul, in an effort to cut
00:21off Daesh's supply route.
00:23Costa Rica declared a national emergency hours before a Caribbean hurricane that was expected
00:28to rip into it and neighbouring Nicaragua today.
00:31It will be the first time Costa Rica takes a direct hit from a hurricane since records
00:35began in 1851.
00:37Hurricane Otto was packing sustained winds of 140km per hour that were forecast to strengthen
00:42further before landfall.
00:44Both countries issued red alerts for the areas to be worst hit, evacuated thousands of people
00:49and ordered the closure of schools.
00:50Britain's Sir Elton John will not perform at the inauguration of Donald Trump as US

00:55A statement announced by John's publicist counters a Trump adviser's claim that John
00:59would be performing.
