00:15and shouted out, stop supplying weapons, stop supplying ammunition, stop sending troops,
00:23close the borders.
00:25The charismatic president was making the point that Ukraine had almost defeated its
00:29Russian separatist rebels last year, but then Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, sent
00:37supplies and military support that enabled the rebels to regroup and fight back.
00:42It's quite a shock in the 2010s to find a European leader of a major state who's fighting
00:47a war.
00:49Most clashes in Europe nowadays are done by diplomats sorting it out in rooms or summits
00:54of the EU.
00:55To find a leader who's leading troops, sending them into battle and trying to regrain his
01:00territory was quite a jolt.
01:02Poroshenko gave a dramatic speech saying at the end, this aggression from Russia has led
01:08Ukraine to become stronger, Ukraine to become more democratic, Ukraine to becoming more
01:13European.
01:14He made an impassioned appeal to the Davos annual meeting to continue investment in Ukraine
01:21and to build closer links with Europe, which is the way forward for his desperate nation.
