00:00Why we chose Dubai? Dubai is always a lovely city to come to, a place which I've been coming
00:10here since ever. We wanted to bring our film here, we wanted the people to see it and the
00:15first premier show anywhere in the world is going to be in Dubai. So it's a great honour
00:19for Anushka, Akshay and me and the whole team of Patiala House. It's an honour to work with
00:23the new generation, I've been working for 37 years now and I work with a lot of people,
00:32hope to be working with a lot of other people as well. And I thank them, they're great actors,
00:38all of them, they all bring their own space, they all bring their own ideas.
00:43I'm playing a British Indian who stays, who was born there and I get this chance to play
00:49cricket for England and my father, that's Mr. Rishi Kapoorji, doesn't agree with the fact
00:55that I should play against India and I try to explain him, here I am, I just want to play
01:02sports, it's not a war I'm going against, it's just sports and that's what the whole idea is.
01:08This is just the one part of Patiala House and later on how, what happens,
01:14does he agree or what happens is the film to watch out.
01:17My character is someone who's a go-getter, she follows a dream, always, so that's her spirit.
01:23I'm a good cricketer in real life and to bowl in real life, I had to be a very good cricketer
01:31because people are going to be watching it and they're going to give marks to it.
01:35So I had to go undergo a training with Mr. Balwinder Sandhu, who was one of the person
01:40responsible to win the World Cup in 1983, many people know him.
01:46So he trained me for 25 days, he taught me how the technique should be,
01:50how to increase my speed of my bowling and how to bring my elbows right and everything,
01:57so that's the training I went through.
02:00What happens is that when you are an actor who doesn't have any, I mean I'm an actor who does not
02:06come from the industry, so in your first film, people form an image of you and that's what they know about you.
02:11So in my first movie, I came as a Punjabi girl who's played in Amritsar,
02:16so that's why maybe people identified that character with me.
02:21Having said that, as an actor, I'm always trying to do like different things,
02:24I'm trying to do different roles, so even if you come from the same place,
02:28like it could be a Punjabi, like Simran in Patiala House is also a Punjabi,
02:31but she's a Punjabi who's been brought up in Southall,
02:33she's a girl whose origin is from Punjab, but she's been brought up as a British Asian.
02:41So characters are always different, also actors don't take casts really, they take characters,
02:44and you could be like a Bengali from five different parts of the world,
02:48and five people are very different from each other.
02:51So that has nothing to do with it, but I think I'm really happy that I'm able to convince people
02:55to believe that I'm a Punjabi because I've been brought up in Bangalore, South India all my life.
03:02So whatever works, as an actor I try to do different things,
03:06but if something is working with people, why not do that also?
