00:00The center started in April 2009.
00:14The vision of the commander was to provide an innovative training environment in a way
00:20that it can support the traditional training methods that are used in Dubai Police.
00:24He wanted some environment that is safe, that the trainee can come into that environment
00:28and practice as if he would in a real training environment, gain the experience that he should,
00:34replicate this environment as close as possible to the real scenarios, and that's where we
00:39started.
00:40We chose some cases, real cases, which we were working on inside the department.
00:45We teach them how we reach to the end of this case and how we finish the cases from A to
00:52Z, like step by step.
00:54The first program that we started with was the traffic accident investigation.
00:58We took real case accidents and converted them into a 3D environment, and when the
01:03trainee comes into this environment, he starts as if he were either patrolling the street
01:08or at the police station, and he gets the incident call.
01:11After that, he has to travel to the incident.
01:13There are a number of procedures that he has to follow, and the program automatically checks
01:17if you are doing the right procedure and will correct you if that is the mode of training
01:21that the trainer is after.
01:23Then came the crime scene investigation program.
01:25It followed the similar way of development for the traffic accident investigation, and
01:30here we have real cases, and the cases vary from the areas, the type of crime, the number
01:34of people involved in the crime.
01:36So to give the student variations that he can practice different things, and we want
01:41him to go from receiving the incident call to completing the case file.
01:46It was really acceptable within the students and the trainers as well.
01:50They like this environment, they've seen what it can give them.
01:54In a short period of time, they can let students experience two to three cases.
01:58When they start, most of them, they say it's a little bit difficult, you can see the result,
02:03it's like increased.
02:04First day or second day, they bring like 40%, 50%, but when we finish the course, most
02:10of them, it's like 80% or 90%.
02:20In the center, we use the latest methods of evaluation, such as personal interviews,
02:35tests before and after the training, and monitoring the experts during the training, and also
02:44the field work, the practical reality, we monitor the trainers to measure their knowledge
02:52and experience.
02:53It is the first time I faced these courses, something like games, talking like how we
02:59can play games, and we can do that in our work.
03:03It's a little bit difficult in the beginning, but when you just go with it for a few times
03:08and solving some problems, it is too easy, and it can help you as much as we can do it
03:15in the field.
03:16If we modify this game for a little bit more, it will be perfect.
03:21We did a comparison between the virtual training and the traditional methods used at Dubai
03:27Police.
03:28Comparison that we did, it was about the field training for crime scene investigation and
03:32traffic accident investigation, versus doing the training in a virtual environment.
03:37We've seen that the benefits of doing it in a virtual environment was you can accommodate
03:41more students.
03:42In the field, it's really difficult, because if you want to replicate, for example, a traffic
03:47accident between two cars, and you want to have the witnesses there playing the actors,
03:52so that you can really mimic the scenario that you are after, bring all the support
03:57units that you are after, the ambulance, the tow truck, etc.
04:00When you compare that amount of time, logistics that you have to coordinate, to the thing
04:06that we do in virtual environment, it became very obvious that we have a winner in terms
04:10of this technology.
04:12Much more efficient, much more beneficial to both the student and the trainer.
