10 February - national forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you. This week's weather phrase is
00:04Scandinavian high. An area of high pressure has very much rooted itself
00:09across Scandinavia at the moment and is continuing to feed in this easterly wind
00:13across the UK. Because that is coming in from the North Sea it's filtering in a
00:18lot of moisture and we are seeing a lot of cloud to kick off this new working
00:22week. It'll also be bringing some outbreaks of rain and drizzle, be falling
00:25as snow over the hills, particularly the Pennines today could see several
00:28centimetres building up. Parts of the West though, particularly northwestern
00:32Scotland, will see some sunshine around and it'll be more of a pleasant day here.
00:36But temperatures for most of us really are going to be struggling around 5 to 6
00:41degrees Celsius. Once we add on the strength of that easterly wind though
00:45it's going to be feeling even colder than that, closer towards freezing for
00:50the vast majority of us. So it really will be quite bitter out there
00:53particularly when you're exposed along those eastern coastal districts. This
00:58setup is going to continue into the night as well so continuing to see a lot
01:01of cloud for many of us. Those showers and outbreaks of rain continue to spread
01:05their way in from the North Sea. We'll hold on to the clearer skies across
01:09northwestern Scotland and so here temperatures could drop off a touch more
01:13and there again will be some patchy frost around during the night and into
01:17the start of Tuesday. But where we hold on to the cloud elsewhere will be more
01:21on the positive side of that temperature scale 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. Maybe still
01:25some localised icy stretches in there where surfaces are left untreated. We've
01:30got all that rain and showers still around. We could potentially see just
01:34some longer spells of rain moving into southeastern England on Tuesday and also
01:38this system that wants to push its way towards the Isles of Scilly into the
01:41afternoon as well. But elsewhere it is going to be another grey, dull, gloomy day.
01:47A lot of clouds on the scene. It's always going to be the west that has the
01:50greatest chance of seeing some sunny breaks in there particularly the likes of
01:54the Highlands, Argyll and Bute. Potentially into areas of Cumbria around the Lake
01:57District as well. Temperatures though still rather struggling 5-6 degrees
02:03Celsius. The winds should ease off a little bit for parts of Wales central
02:07southern areas of England but it really is still going to have quite a keen
02:11breeze across Scotland into parts of northern England and Northern Ireland as
02:15well. So another very cold day to come here. The area of high pressure across
02:22Scandinavia and up into the north really wants to root itself there for a good
02:26portion of this forthcoming week. There is this area of low pressure out in the
02:30Atlantic that is trying to push its way in but it is really struggling to move
02:34its way in into that area of high pressure. Which one of those will win out?
02:38Well we'll keep you up to date with our latest forecasts and there will be a
02:42full week ahead forecast on our YouTube channel issued later on today so do
02:46subscribe so you're aware of when that is uploaded. Otherwise I hope you enjoy the
02:51rest of your day. Bye bye.
