00:00Inside the big game continues from New Orleans, Louisiana. We're
00:26sitting beside a man that needs no introduction. He's the only
00:29the all time leading rusher three times Super Bowl champion,
00:33Super Bowl MVP, NFL MVP, and a very successful entrepreneur
00:38right now, Mr. Emmett Smith in the house with us. It's an honor
00:42to have you on the show, my man. Thanks for joining us.
00:44Thank you for having me. Looking forward to it.
00:46So listen, you're a Super Bowl veteran. You've been here with
00:48the Dallas Cowboys before, but you're here with Tableau right
00:51now.
00:52Yes, yes. Tableau and I are here to help people understand if
00:55they want to watch the big game on Sunday, they can order their
00:58Tableau at Best Buy, they can have it shipped over to them
01:02from Amazon. And once you get it, you hook up the antenna and
01:05link up the device to your Wi Fi network and you can stream it
01:09all throughout all the TVs in your house. No subscription, no
01:14fees whatsoever. And you can get over 300 channels and watch the
01:18big game and watch all your sporting events. You can pause
01:20it, you can rewind it, you can record on it and everything
01:24else. So trying to help people cut down on all the
01:28subscription fees that they're paying for all the different
01:31apps that are out there.
01:32Yeah, money is tight right now. And cable bills aren't cheap,
01:35man. And as you stated, I'm one of the cool things about about
01:37Tableau, you can record anything at once. Yes. So if something's
01:41going on, you record something else without without a contract
01:44as well. Pretty bad.
01:45Well, you know, contracts, subscription agreements and all
01:48those kind of things.
01:48Unless you're getting paid at it, right? That's a good
01:50contract.
01:50Even if you are getting paid, I think even just because you have
01:54money don't mean that you have to spend it all.
01:56Yeah, that's how you stay rich.
01:57At the end of the day, if you got something like Tableau that
02:00cuts down on your subscription fees and everything else, and
02:03chop some of your bills in half, especially television bills,
02:08especially when the TV is off while you're working all day. So
02:10it's not like you're watching TV all day. So being able to save
02:14money in areas like this, this is this is a wonderful thing.
02:17Let me ask you, I mean, there's so many players who've seen so
02:20many stories, especially from former football players,
02:22especially, you know, in the 70s and the 80s, that have struggled
02:25financially didn't think about their post careers. You're a
02:29very successful entrepreneur. And you just recently have a big
02:33shopping district and development complex going on in
02:37South Carolina right now, right? A lot of other deals. At what
02:41point in your career was it in your career that you thought
02:44when I'm done playing? I want to be a businessman, I want to be
02:47an entrepreneur. Magic Johnson was one of the first guys to
02:50really take it right to the next level. Was there someone that
02:52influenced you? Or did you do this by yourself on your own?
02:54I didn't do nothing on my own. No one does anything on their
02:57own. No one becomes successful by themselves. I mean, the
03:00vision and and and and everything else comes from
03:04inspiration from others. Magic was one of those guys that was
03:08also an inspirational and a great mentor and a leader as
03:10well. Roger Staubach was one. Even my hot even one of my
03:14coaches when I was a kid, actually birthed him birthed in
03:17me this entrepreneur spirit. So growing up seeing what others
03:21was doing Jerry Jones himself growing up in the house of the
03:24Dallas Cowboys and watching how that organization function and
03:28operates and not only that but uh conduct business on the real
03:33estate level. All of those things became very inspirational
03:37for me and and for players like myself and many others. You
03:41know, I don't I think I think I had the desire to want to do
03:45more and wanted to learn more and I think that in itself
03:49helped me. And branch out into different fields, right? Try
03:52different things. Try different things and see what
03:54works and what doesn't work and you you learn a lot and and for
03:58me, I settled in on the real estate space. Magic, like you
04:01said, Magic Johnson was very successful. Once he started in
04:04the real estate space, Roger Staubach has been very
04:06successful in the real estate space and I'm working my way to
04:09to do this, do the same thing. So, you mentioned the Dallas
04:11Cowboys. I never think it's fair when people judge trades
04:15or coaching hires. We don't know, right? You've gotta let
04:17it see how it's gonna play out. Exactly. But at the same point
04:20in time, so I feel bad for coach Schottenheimer right now
04:23due to the reaction and I think it was almost because a little
04:26bit of the tease out there of a potential Deion Sanders reunion
04:30with the Dallas Cowboys. Right. I know a lot of former Cowboy
04:34players thought it would have been a positive infuse of
04:37energy. I think so. Into the football team. What was your
04:40take on the situation? I think it would have been all of those
04:42things. I think it would have been obviously it would have
04:44been the biggest and the most talked about story on a
04:48national and global stage. Didn't it seem like the stars
04:50were just sort of aligned with the right timing? Yes and no.
04:55Yes and no. I mean, right now, it's about as low as the
04:58Cowboys can actually get. So, it's been great for Prime. Prime
05:01would have came in and probably would have changed everything
05:03around and brought more energy and more focus. The question
05:06becomes the connection between players. Not that he he's not a
05:09great communicator. He's a great motivator but you also have a
05:12bunch of grown men that have been in the system right now
05:15that you have to get their attention and that would have
05:19been something that Prime would have had to adjust to but he has
05:24the right message. I think the question would have become how
05:30does he feel about having an impact at that level on
05:34players' lives like he hasn't has an impact on young men's
05:38life. I think Prime is really changing lives at the level
05:42that he's at. The highest GPA ever in Colorado's history. I
05:46mean, that's something that people don't probably talk
05:48about. People talk about D on this and all these and D on
05:51that. The highest GPA ever. Yeah. The kids are going to
05:55class, bro. Yeah, cuz he's he's a father figure to them and
05:59he's a he's not only a father figure but a mentor to them and
06:03he can connect with them because he has been where
06:06they're trying to go and the same thing translate at the
06:09professional level. He has been what a lot of these guys are
06:12trying to go. The question, bringing in the right resources
06:16around him, supporting him, giving him as much leeway to
06:20run the organization as he needs to. That was the part
06:23that's remaining to be seen. For Jerry, we don't know and and
06:30so we don't know how those dynamics would have played out.
06:32I would have loved to have seen it. Uh I know one thing, it
06:36definitely would have been the most talked about franchise in
06:39the history of all the sports because it would have went
06:42global in terms of the highest rate of regular season games in
06:44history. Period. I mean, but Cowboys get that anyway. Yeah.
06:48They get that anyway. It just would have just put it. It was
06:50just put it over the top. Put it over the top and the same
06:52thing would have happened on the scrutiny. Yeah. And all
06:55these other things would have happened as well because of the
06:58visibility. So, uh it had been interesting to see it. It
07:02really would have and and I believe that Dion would have
07:05done an excellent job. I wanna ask you and I know we only got
07:08a couple of minutes left and we really appreciate your time uh
07:10here on Media Row. The great, the term greatest ever gets
07:14tossed around a lot. You're the all-time uh leading rusher. A
07:17lot of talk about Patrick Mahomes. I'm thinking you're a
07:20guy cuz I hear Wally's won three times and and all these
07:23other guys. Does Troy Aikman not get enough love now in
07:26today's day and age? Cuz I think when he was playing, he
07:28did. Mm hmm. But I don't, you know, is does he get enough
07:31love now when people talk about great winning quarterbacks? I
07:35don't think he gets enough respect and um because I mean
07:42every everybody has their opinion about what a
07:45quarterback does. I think people are so busy comparing
07:48eras to one another era that he never played in. So, they
07:53don't know what kind of quarterback he could have been
07:55in this in this system. I mean, they forget that Troy Aikman
07:58ran the wishbone at Oklahoma. Yeah. And went to UCLA and
08:04became a passing quarterback. So, he could throw, he could
08:07throw the ball at Oklahoma but they just ran the ball and so.
08:10He got coach Switzer. He could've been an RPO offense.
08:14Yeah. Easy. But people are so busy comparing this guy to that
08:18guy. Different eras, different rules, different different
08:21systems and everything else and and it's just not right. It's
08:26just not even fair. Instead of just appreciating the talent
08:29for what the talent was at the time and what the talent is
08:32today. How good is Saquon? We got about a minute and a half
08:34right now. How much do you enjoy watching him and what's
08:38who do you think, who are you leaning with to win the Super
08:40Bowl? Can they become the first team to win three Super Bowls
08:42in a row? And don't forget everybody, you can watch the
08:45game on Tableau. You can order this online. You can get it
08:48over at Best Buy. Yeah. Very affordable too. It's like 60,
08:5165 bucks, man. Yeah, I mean, you might get a great deal. You
08:53might get in a big discount right about now. Hey, man.
08:57Who's who's going to win the game? Who are you leaning with?
09:01I'm leaning with the NFC. Philadelphia Eagles, huh?
09:04Philadelphia Eagles. Uh I hate to say Flybirds. Yeah, it must
09:07be hard. Fly Eagles fly. When it is the the eagle. The bowl
09:13eagle. Emmett, it's a sincere honor to have you on the set
09:17here on Meteor Up. I'm going to tell you something on the way
09:20out though, man. You broke my heart, bro. I'm a lifelong
09:23Buffalo Bill fan. Well, you broke your own heart. Y'all
09:26broke your own heart. I didn't. Hey, I thought we had you in
09:29Atlanta till you ran the ball down our throat coming out of
09:31the in the third quarter. Troy told the story the other day.
09:33But bro, y'all kept turning the ball over. Oh, man. You turn
09:37the ball over in big games like this. You are supposed to lose.
09:41Yeah. Especially if you turn it over to an offensive unit like
09:44ours or a team like ours. Turn the ball. Let the Eagles turn
09:46the ball over in the pass at home. Give them more
09:48opportunity to get. They're going to lose.
