00:00The election in Kosovo is a test for Prime Minister Albin Korti's popularity.
00:05He won a landslide in 2021, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can replicate that success.
00:11Kosovo remains one of the poorest places in Europe, with a GDP per capita of just over 6,000 euros.
00:18I am here to vote for change. Kosovo needs change. Kosovo needs economic development.
00:25It needs to keep and cultivate relations with our international friends.
00:30Apart from the everyday issues like pensions, pay and education, the winner will have to grapple with wider geopolitical questions.
00:39Following years of civil war and conflict, Kosovo announced its independence from Serbia in 2008, a move not recognised by Belgrade.
00:48There are tensions with the country's Serbian minority, the closure of banks, administration, post offices financed by Serbia and the banning of the Serbian dinar.
00:58The Prime Minister has done everything in his power to reduce Belgrade's influence, policies which are frowned upon by the United States and the European Union.
01:07But for some voters abroad, it was important to return home to help get him re-elected.
01:13I'd rather ask what he hasn't done than what he has done. He only did good things. He banned the Serbian dinar. He stood up to Serbia.
01:22Many Kosovo Serbs are feeling disillusioned and don't feel like things will improve. They say they are being denied their rights.
01:30Whoever wins on Sunday will also have to contend with a gap in funding after the Trump administration froze virtually all US assistance for the time being.
01:40This has been key in promoting Kosovo's growth.
