00:00The oceans are a big place, so if you're just a tiny critter, it can help to team up
00:08for the big win. And that's what these two have done. What we've got here is a pistol
00:13shrimp and a goby. Now, both these animals can live happily on their own, but when they
00:19come together, they form an incredible partnership. For one, the pistol shrimp is a mighty engineer.
00:26He can scoop out rock and sand and create a perfect burrow for him and his goby mate.
00:33But what's the goby bring to it? Well, the pistol shrimp eyes, they're not so good, but
00:38the goby's got a cracking set of peepers. And that means that he can stick his head
00:42out of the burrow and keep a watchful eye for any potential predators. The minute something's
00:47afoot, quick flick of the tail, and they can both scurry back down into the safety of their
00:52burrow. In coral seas the world over, you will find different combinations of pistol
01:00shrimp and goby sharing a burrow together, such as this colourful couple in the northwest
01:08Pacific, this tropical twosome in the Indian Ocean, and some that decided two was just
01:15not enough, with three being the magic number. Once the bond is formed, they remain together
01:23for life in a partnership resembling domestic bliss. Also, that goby can act as a bit of
01:31a takeaway delivery service. If he sees food floating around far away from the burrow,
01:36he can zip out, swim up to it, grab it, and then come back to the burrow and spit it out,
01:41ready for his shrimpy mate to get a cheeky feast. Nice.
