00:00Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA still has almost 2 million unemployed.

00:08It's a big problem because some of the leading products have high prices.

00:13Bernadette Reyes is on the case.

00:18The Department of Trade and Industry has already released the latest suggested retail price guide for those who will buy.

00:25It's effective from February 1.

00:28It includes more than 60 products with high prices,

00:32including sardines, canned meat, evaporada, coffee, water, Pinoy Tasty, and Pinoy Pandesal.

00:38Even soap and batteries are expensive.

00:41Depending on the item, the high price is 2 to 9 percent.

00:45For sardines, for example, it depends on the brand, up to more than 2 pesos.

00:50Pinoy Pandesal also increased it by more than 2 pesos.

00:54While more than 3 pesos for Pinoy Tasty.

01:15According to the Department of Trade and Industry, manufacturers can increase their prices.

01:20But maybe in the next few days, the buyers will feel the price increase in the families.

01:26But for now, they have their own plans on how to budget.

01:30I think it's the same, the quality is not different.

01:34So I will just choose the cheaper one.

01:36If I feel that the taste is the same, then we will go for the cheaper one.

01:57But until this December, there are 1.63 million unemployed, or equivalent to 3.1 percent unemployment rate.

02:06This is lower than last November.

02:08But the rate is the same as last December 2023.

02:12The employment rate reached 96.9 percent this December.

02:16Higher than 96.8 percent last November.

02:20This means that 50.19 million Filipinos have a job or business.

02:26Most of the added jobs are from agriculture and forestry, transportation and storage, construction, public administration, and defense.
