00:00The House Prosecution Panel hopes that the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte will start soon.
00:08But they will do whatever the Senate decides.
00:11The details are in the national news of Mela Lesmoras of PTV Manila.
00:18The House Prosecution Panel respects the decision of the Senate
00:23in line with the timeline of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.
00:29According to House Deputy Majority Leader Lawrence Defensor,
00:32one of the alleged prosecutors of the House of Representatives,
00:35it is possible for the Senate to start the impeachment trial in June.
00:39But if it starts earlier, it would be better.
00:43Since the Constitution provides that a trial shall proceed forthwith,
00:48if we interpret forthwith, it should be as soon as possible.
00:53But since the Senate is an independent body,
00:56and we respect their independence being a bicameral legislature,
01:01we will leave that to the interpretation of the Senate.
01:05According to OneRider Party List Representative Rojco Cheres,
01:09whatever happens, they will continue to prepare.
01:12They will also hold an information campaign to make the public understand the impeachment process.
01:18The impeachment secretariat's chamber is also being formed,
01:22but it is not yet clear who will be counted here.
01:25It's still not clear. Of course, it's been a while,
01:27but the impeachment secretariat will cater to all the needs that the House would have
01:31in relation to this sui generis proceeding.
01:33So, I think it would be from the top down regarding logistics, regarding support.
01:39It should be separate from the legislative function of the House.
01:43Yesterday, the Chamber made history when they impeached VP Sara.
01:48A total of 215 congressmen filed the complaint.
01:51And that number can still be added because there are 25 more lawmakers who want to come here.
01:58At the same time, on social media,
02:00there are various rumors that there is an exchange of additional funds or assistance
02:05for their district, the signing of each lawmaker.
02:09But, as one of the leaders,
02:11House Assistant Majority Leader Zia Alonto Adjong also objected.
02:16The smear campaign has already started in this process.
02:20We should not be brought to this kind of fake news
02:24because this is a way to erase the merits of this process.
02:34Some who did not agree with the impeachment complaint also have an explanation.
02:39House Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo said he did not agree with this
02:44because as a top contender in the senatorial race,
02:47he has the possibility to become a senator judge
02:49and he wants to remain impartial when this happens.
02:53From PTV, Melalas Moras for Balitang Pambansa.
