00:00I'd like to request a statement from the Cabinet Secretary for Health regarding the
00:04Bracken Trust in Llandrindod Wells.
00:07This is a unique, vital cancer support service.
00:10It's been going for 30 years and it's facing a shortfall in funding.
00:15It's the only independent cancer centre of its kind in Wales.
00:19It supports over 300 people affected by cancer every year, including patients and families,
00:26both in practical support, emotional support and in bereavement counselling as well.
00:31Without that urgent intervention, this essential service could start making redundancies.
00:38So, given the unique role of the Bracken Trust in Llandrindod Wells, could I ask the Cabinet
00:44Secretary what steps the Welsh Government will take to sustain this absolutely essential
00:50service?
00:51Diolch yn fawr, Jane Dodds.
00:55It sounds a fantastic, independent cancer charity, the Bracken Trust, obviously providing
01:03vital cancer services, £300 a year.
01:07It is independent.
01:08I'm not awareóI haven't been able to find out the present Welsh Government funding for
01:14that.
01:15I don't think they have funded it in the past.
01:17It must have been funded, presumably, by local authority health board trusts and fundraising
01:22donations.
01:23But I will take this back to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care so that we can
01:28look at this in terms of their current situation, and, of course, this is a situation where
01:34they may also be able to get support via voluntary sector, third sector routes and infrastructure
01:40routes as well.
01:41So, I will liaise on those questions.
