00:56reconstruction.
00:57The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it too.
01:03We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and
01:08other weapons on the site, level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level
01:15it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and
01:20housing for the people of the area.
01:24Trump's comments came as he welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for talks
01:29at the White House, the first foreign leader to visit the U.S. president in his second
01:34term.
01:35Their meeting comes amid discussions of a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas
01:41and a temporary truce deal for Gaza's reconstruction, something that Trump and his advisers have
01:46claimed is not viable.
01:50But Egypt and Jordan, as well as other Arab nations, have rejected calls by Trump to relocate
01:55the territory's 2.3 million Palestinians.
02:00And although hardline right-wing members of Netanyahu's government have embraced Trump's
02:05comments, the Israeli Prime Minister is also facing pressure to end the temporary truce
02:10and continue with the war.
02:12Meanwhile, protesters and families of Israeli hostages in Gaza marched to the U.S. embassy
02:19in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, calling on President Trump to reach an agreement to release all
02:24the remaining hostages.
02:29At least two Israeli soldiers were killed on Tuesday after a gunman attacked an Israeli
02:34military checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.
02:37Israel's Defense Forces, IDF, said the Palestinian gunman was later killed by its troops.
02:43The shooting took place in the morning at a military post in Taissa, in the northern
02:47part of the West Bank, according to the military statement.
02:51Eight Israeli soldiers were wounded in the attack, including two who are currently in
02:56serious condition.
02:59Israeli media reported the attack came amid an ongoing counter-terrorism offensive in
03:04the northern West Bank.
03:06The region has seen a surge in violence since Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on southern
03:11Israel from the Gaza Strip.
03:21Syria's Interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
03:26to discuss Syria's economic recovery.
03:29They also spoke about the presence of Kurdish-led forces in the north of the country, which
03:33Turkey considers to be a security threat.
03:37The interim president was welcomed by the Turkish president and a small group of the
03:41honor guard at the entrance of the presidential palace.
03:45It was a low-key ceremony compared to visits of other heads of state, who are usually received
03:50with military bands and troops escorting them.
03:53Al-Sharaa, who was appointed last week, was a former rebel leader who led the insurgents
03:59who toppled President Bashar al-Assad in December.
04:02Turkey, who was a strong backer of groups opposed to al-Assad during the 13-year civil
04:07war, is considered to be one of the new administration's key allies.
04:13Erdogan's office said talks would focus on steps towards Syria's economic recovery and
04:17its security and stability.
04:24Swedish Prime Minister Alf Kristersen has called Tuesday's mass shooting at a school
04:29in Örebro the worst in his country's history.
04:32Speaking at a joint news conference with Justice Minister Gunnar Strömer, Kristersen
04:37said a darkness is being cast over Sweden.
05:02The gunman is reported to have opened fire at the Campus Rysberska school in Örebro
05:07at around 12.30pm, after many students had gone home following a national exam.
05:14Swedish police say about 10 people, including the gunman, were killed, but they have not
05:19yet provided a definitive number of how many were wounded.
05:24Authorities have said there are no suspected connections to terrorism at this point, adding
05:29there were also no warning signs before the attack.
05:36The head of the UN's atomic watchdog says he intends to visit Moscow in the coming days
05:42to discuss Russia's persistent attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which he
05:47says threaten nuclear safety.
05:49We are very clear, you know, we have, I have from the very beginning of this war insisted
05:57and managed to keep a very open channel of communication with, of course, with Kiev and
06:05with Moscow.
06:06I met President Putin several times, Minister Lavrov and the CEO of Rosatom, the, I mean,
06:16people from the military.
06:19It comes after Grossi visited an electrical substation in Kiev on Tuesday, during which
06:25he was shown the damage caused to the country's key power grid facilities by Russian strikes.
06:31Grossi says this damage poses a threat to nuclear safety by potentially disrupting vital
06:36cooling procedures at atomic plants.
06:40He added that there were a few occasions where we had close calls with regard to Europe's
06:45largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, which is under Russian occupation.
06:51Zaporizhia has repeatedly been caught in the crossfire of fighting, and while its six reactors
06:57have been shut down for months, it still needs power and staff to operate crucial cooling
07:02systems and other safety features.
07:07Norway's Prime Minister presented his new government on Tuesday following a cabinet
07:12reshuffle.
07:13The biggest surprise was former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg returning as Finance
07:18Minister.
07:20The veteran politician served as Norway's Prime Minister for nine years before joining
07:24NATO from 2014 to 2024.
07:28He will not be replacing Slagsvold Vettem after a fierce debate over EU energy policies
07:33forced the country's ruling coalition government to split last week.
07:37I stand here today with the first clean Labour Party government in 25 years.
07:47Here are some new faces, some familiar faces and some very familiar faces.
07:54But in sum, this is a team that is ready to take over and rule Norway in a very demanding
08:01time.
08:03Stoltenberg announced his return to politics on Tuesday after, quote, having carefully
08:08considered the current challenges we face.
08:11Norway, which is not a member of the EU, could potentially be hit by tariffs from both Brussels
08:16and Washington should US President Donald Trump follow through with his tax threats.
08:22During his time at NATO, Stoltenberg was instrumental in convincing Trump to stick with the alliance.
08:30Clean-up efforts are underway in the Italian city of Messina in Sicily after heavy rainfall
08:36caused severe flooding and landslides.
08:39Italy's National Fire Service said it was called out to more than 100 storm-related
08:44incidents, which included rescuing motorists trapped in flooded underpasses.
08:50The service said the situation was critical in the Orto Liuzzo and San Saber areas of
08:55Messina, where firefighters had to use inflatable boats to rescue residents trapped in their
09:01homes.
09:55Pollution, overconsumption, waste.
10:10These are the three biggest problems Europeans say they face with water.
10:14But it also includes devastating floods on one hand and the threat of desertification
10:19on the other.
10:21According to the European Commission's State of Water Report, the EU's water resources
10:25are under significant pressure.
10:27Less than 40% of our EU surface water bodies achieve good ecological status, with a healthy
10:36ecosystem being home to many species and with water able to regenerate itself.
10:42And only a quarter achieve good chemical status, meaning that the relevant thresholds of hazardous
10:48substances are not exceeded.
10:51Many Member States recognize that this is a big problem.
10:55Some progress has been made over the last years, but there is still a lot of work to
10:59do.
11:01The Commissioner said that the EU has directives and recommendations, but their implementation
11:06is not perfect.
11:07Therefore, the Executive will initiate a dialogue with various sectoral representatives as well
11:12as with the Member States.
11:15We need to do more to ensure the security of our water supply, because citizens need
11:20clean water, farmers and businesses need a stable water supply, and we need to protect
11:25our fresh and marine waters to reduce flood risks.
11:29Because the cost of inaction is too high, knowing the situation will become worse.
11:36Based on the current reports, the European Commission will present an EU water resilience
11:40strategy this spring.
