00:00Well, it's a big day in WA on lots of fronts.
00:05Lots of kids back at school for the first time this year.
00:08Big day for the pollies as well because it is the official start of the WA election campaign.
00:15The Premier spent the morning here in Treby in Perth South promising hundreds of millions
00:19of dollars for the state's education system, new schools, upgrades to existing schools,
00:25all if WA Labor is elected at the election.
00:29But the big moment comes later on when he'll visit the Governor who will officially issue
00:34the writs for the election.
00:36That's the official start of the election campaign period, just over 30 days of frantic
00:42campaigning right across the state.
00:45The key question isn't really who's going to win the election, it will almost certainly
00:49be Labor given their absolute dominance here after the 2021 election and that Mark McGowan
00:56landslide.
00:57The big question is how much the Liberals can win back and in particular which seats
01:03they win back because that will give us a bit of a steer for how the federal election
01:08might play out.
01:09WA was crucial to delivering Anthony Albanese the keys to the Lodge back in 2022.
01:16He needs to hang on to lots of seats here.
01:18If he wants to stay in government, the Liberals need to pick up some of those seats if they
01:23want to be in striking distance.
01:25So there are lots of reasons to be paying attention to WA and to this campaign even
01:30if we probably already know the result of the election.
