00:10Tens of thousands of objects and scores, owned by the most famous Franco-Polish composer
00:15in history, have been digitized in the Friedrich Chopin Institute in Warsaw.
00:20This European project contributes to promoting this genius of romanticism.
00:26We decided to publish materials that have never been published online or are very unique.
00:32We managed to digitize almost 40,000 of those objects.
00:37Our webpage is quite a popular one because we have over a million interactions to our webpage a year.
00:49Friedrich Chopin reinvented the piano with new sounds and echoes of folklore from his beloved Poland.
00:55He was emotional. It is said that he never played the same composition in the same way twice.
01:01Thanks to this project, specialists like this pianist can investigate, compare and learn.
01:25The digitization of Chopin's universe has brought around 20 people together,
01:37working with various scanners for over two years with the aim of preserving his legacy forever.
01:44We think about the digitization as a part of preservation of the materials
01:49because we know that a lot of Polish music was destroyed during the Second World War.
01:55However, the Friedrich Chopin Institute archives in Warsaw still have plenty of secrets to be revealed.
02:03There are more than 19,000 books and thanks to European Union funds we digitalized more than 1,500 books.
02:15This project has a budget of 1.7 million euros, of which 62.97% is provided by the European Cohesion Policy
02:24and the rest from Polish public funds.
02:28Among the digitized works is La Ballade, op. 47, one of Justyna's favorites.
02:36La Ballade is an extremely romantic piece.
02:40For me, it is sung like poetry.
02:45This bel canto style can be found in it.
