00:00The big chippy over in Drew's Lane in Upper Gorno, so my name is Sookie Sahota, one of the owners of the business

00:07It's a family-run business, and it's owned by both me and my brother

00:11We actually saw you on the Express and Start advert probably about 18 months ago now, so

00:18Growing up always loved chips

00:20I drove past this chip shop in

00:23Probably a couple of months before it come up on auction

00:26And I was like oh nice chippy, but it was closed

00:30Second time around about a month later. I had to drive past there again. Never been to the area before didn't know about the area

00:38Drove past again, and I was like oh that same chippy again. I'll grab some chips from there on the way home again closed

00:45Scrolling through Facebook around Christmas time and it come up on the Express and Start

00:50Feed to say you can buy a chippy at the price of a house, and I was like hmm. Let's have a look at it

00:55Came to view it. It's swamped with viewings, loads of people and then a

01:01Lot of people obviously wanted to buy it, went to auction

01:04It didn't actually go for the price that we were probably expecting

01:07We actually probably got it at a lower price than we was expecting

01:10Brought it at auction. My brother to be fair. He wanted to buy it more than probably I did. Brought it and was like oh, okay

01:18Let's go for it kind of thing. So my brother's background was construction, mine was banking

01:24So we renovated the place and we opened up a few months ago

01:28And then I've quit my day-to-day banking job to come into the business

01:34only recently so

01:36Yeah, and we've been really successful since we've opened so hopefully long may it continue

01:42We haven't reinvented the chip. What we're trying to do is do good quality food at a good affordable price

01:48What we've seen over the last sort of 12 to 18 months

01:51Especially after probably more coming out of Covid

01:54Takeaways are giving substandard food at very high prices and you sort of think it doesn't feel like a fair value exchange

02:02So we want to have a business where people come in that on a Friday night a family of four might come and order

02:08And they'll be fed for £20

02:11How many other places like McDonald's, KFC or anything? You can't feed a family of four for £20

02:15So right now the chip shop trade itself is still probably one of the more

02:21Affordable takeaways for a lot of families

02:24In terms of doing the food, yeah, it's just good quality food. We use one of the best fish around potatoes again

02:30We're using one of the best potatoes around

02:34I'll always go back to this. We haven't reinvented anything. It's just good quality food at good quality prices
