The 2025 Grammys are tonight, February 2nd, and the Billboard staff has come together to discuss the biggest night in music and LA's rebuilding efforts from the devastating wildfires. From the pop girl sensations of 2024, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Charli XCX, to Beyoncé securing 11 nominations, we will be predicting who will win big in the pop, rap, and country categories. The Game heads out into the community to help those in need, while Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt share updates about the wildfires and more.

00:37with a pre-show fundraising.
00:39Our hearts are with the people of Los Angeles
00:42as they face the aftermath of the fires.
00:44In fact, many members of our own staff and community
00:48have been personally affected.
00:49And so our focus at this time
00:51is to allocate resources for the city we all call home.
00:55That's why Billboard is helping raise funds
00:57for local organizations,
00:59including Cal Fund,
01:00the Pasadena Community Foundation,
01:02and Baby to Baby,
01:04an organization that provides
01:05for children living in poverty.

01:29and people come together and volunteered
01:30and given their time.
01:31It's just, I think the unity of that community
01:34is something that really inspired the hell out of me,
01:37you know, to see all of us coming together
01:39and pushing through that thing.
01:40And it just makes me feel like
01:43if we can do that in LA,
01:44that I feel like there's hope for humanity
01:47and this country to really come together
01:50and do something special like that.

01:56When my own home burned down,
01:58I knew I had to take action to help others
02:00who may be permanently displaced.
02:02Through my nonprofit, 1111 Media Impact,
02:05we launched an emergency fund
02:07to provide cash assistance, short-term housing,
02:09and essentials to those in need.
02:11In just five days, we've raised over $1 million.
02:14I'm partnering with incredible organizations
02:16like the Pasadena Humane Society,

04:02Her massive hit, Good Luck Babe,
04:04also earned her six nominations,
04:07including Best Top Solo Performance, Record of the Year,
04:10and Song of the Year for the track.

04:43Charli, Chapel, and Sabrina all performing tonight.
04:47I mean, real quick, side note,
04:48don't they look exactly like the Powerpuff Girls?
04:50I mean, they should be a group together.
04:52It is crazy.
04:53I love it so much.
04:54Speaking of who I'm excited to see perform,
04:56it's crazy because they're all so locked in
04:59when it comes to performances.
05:01It's so their thing.
05:02They all bring such an incredible vibe on stage.
05:06So it's hard to pick just one,
05:07but if I had to pick one,
05:09I think I'm gonna go with Chapel
05:11just because she brings the drama,
05:13the outfits, the theater.
05:16I'm excited to see what theme she's gonna go for
05:19for this performance.
05:20I mean, they're performing,
05:21but let's talk about these nominations.
05:23How are they stacked up?
05:23It is a very exciting year for all three of them,
05:26but particularly Sabrina and Chapel.
05:29It's their first time ever being nominated at the Grammys.
05:31Ever?
05:32Ever, and hit the ground running
05:34with six nominations each.
05:36And we're not done.
05:37On top of all of that,
05:38they joined a very exclusive group of people
05:41that they're nominated in all four
05:43of the big four categories.
05:44So big night for all of them.
05:45I feel like being nominated in the big four
05:47is like a big deal,
05:48but if you get none,
05:49that's like a heavy night.
05:50Yeah, it's gonna be pretty sad,
05:51but I really hope they get it
05:53because they deserve it.
05:54They deserve something
05:55because they've worked so hard.
05:57And speaking of working hard,
05:58Charli XCX.
06:00Yep, Brat Summer.
06:01Brat Summer, Brat Four Seasons.
06:02We're still living Brat.
06:03And Brat Winter, we're doing it all day.
06:04We are full Brat mode still.
06:07But you know, she has,
06:08the last time she was nominated
06:09was 10 years ago,
06:11exactly 10 years ago.

06:13For Fancy.
06:14Iggy Azalea, yes, throwback.
06:16Talk about a throwback.
06:17And she was the featured artist.
06:18So in a lot of ways,
06:19this is her first Grammys
06:20because it's finally for something,
06:23one of her own projects
06:24and eight nominations,
06:25which is not bad at all.
06:26That's crazy.
06:27And I mean, speaking of how she's had
06:29this kind of like long career,
06:30I think about that
06:31with the Best New Artist category
06:32because you got like Sabrina
06:33and Chaplin there
06:34who've been releasing music for a while.
06:35Yeah, it's crazy because especially Sabrina,
06:37she has six albums under her belt,
06:40which you would think,
06:41okay, well that's not a new artist,
06:42but by the Recording Academy standard,
06:45she is a new artist.
06:46It's like getting into social consciousness.
06:47Exactly, exactly.
06:48And she's never been nominated before,
06:50so she is new for the Recording Academy,
06:52but it's really important to note
06:55that they have been working so hard up until now.
06:57Highly recommend listening to other songs
07:00and other albums and their discography.
07:01I love Emails I Can't Send by Sabrina.
07:04That's the one with Nonsense on it, right?
07:05Yes, and Feather.
07:06Oh, that album had bobs.
07:08Bangers on bangers, I'm surprised.
07:09I'm glad she's here now,
07:10but she should have gotten nominated last year.
07:13With that being said,
07:13it's nice seeing all three of these girls
07:16get their flowers.
07:17They deserve it.
07:17They've worked so hard.
07:19They're going against a whole nother crop of women
07:21who are very successful,
07:22like Billie Eilish is nominated for seven.
07:24Yeah, I'm glad you brought this up.
07:25I mean, the girl power, I'm loving it,
07:27but the power pop girls of ours,
07:29they're up against some major players in the Grammys.
07:32They're up against Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift,
07:34and Beyonce in the big four categories.
07:37I mean, Billie Eilish especially.
07:38What a year with Birds of a Feather.
07:40You could not go anywhere without hearing that song.
07:43On Instagram even.
07:44It was everywhere.
07:45Everywhere.
07:45Social media, in person.
07:47It's just constantly everywhere.
07:48I'm pretty sure it was like the most streamed song
07:50on Spotify last year,
07:52so she really worked hard with that song
07:54and the album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.
07:56Such a great album.
07:57I'm a huge Billie Eilish fan,
07:59so I hope she at least gets song or record of the year
08:02if she doesn't get album of the year.
08:04Yeah, I mean, she has sweeped the big four before.
08:06She sure has.
08:07So it would make sense,
08:08but then the whole time you're talking,
08:09I'm like, yeah, you're right.
08:10Billie had this incredible year,
08:12but then I'm like, no,
08:12pop culture conversation was dominated by Taylor, Beyonce,
08:16Taylor, Beyonce.
08:16So to look at that and be like,
08:18also Billie could win, that's intense.
08:20We had a really, really great year in pop music.
08:23I cannot believe how we had just all the major pop stars
08:25drop albums.
08:26Album after album after album.
08:27And they're all great,
08:28so it's like, who could possibly win?
08:30They all deserve it,
08:31which, I mean, it's a good place to be in,
08:33but tough if you're a Grammy nominee.
08:35We have a night ahead of us.
08:37I mean, we got so much to talk about.

09:04to see how they're handling life after the fire.
09:09I went to evacuate at Spencer's parents' house.
09:12And I thought, okay, we'll spend the night here.
09:15Hopefully I'll go home.
09:17I got there and the whole town was gone.
09:20You can't know how fast quick things move.
09:22So when I do think like, I should have grabbed this,
09:23I should have grabbed that,
09:25I always come back to, I should have actually grabbed less.
09:28I should have left sooner.
09:29My mom called me from Colorado
09:31and she's like, leave everything
09:33and leave the house.
09:35And I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
09:38I'm gonna leave now.
09:44Obviously we're looking into everything.
09:46We just want accountability.
09:47It's not a political thing.
09:49Not at all.
09:49Our next door neighbors, whose house also burned down,
09:53I was just in their daughter's wedding.
09:55I was one of the groomsmen.
09:56She married my best friend,
09:58who's a lawyer representing us.
09:59So it's all of our neighbors on our block.
10:01This isn't like a Heidi and Spencer,
10:04like, oh, let's try to do a money grab.
10:06This is our neighbors.
10:07It's everybody that's been there for 40 years
10:09on the street.
10:10If everything's all legit and everything was hell,
10:13then obviously we'll lose the case.
10:15If not, it would be nice for everybody
10:17who lost their house and all their possessions
10:19to get some money out of whatever went wrong.

11:35After dominating the dance world with Renaissance,
11:38she reminded the world the roots of country music
11:40with Cowboy Carter.

11:46The album went number one
11:47and so did the single, Texas Hold'em.
11:49She highlighted some of the best black voices in country.
11:53♪ We're only waiting for this moment to arise ♪
11:57Including Shaboozie,
11:59who had one of the year's biggest hits.
12:01♪ Everybody had to bargain tips ♪
12:04And yeah, then there was the Beyonce Bowl on Christmas.
12:11And though there were headlines
12:12when she wasn't nominated at the CMA Awards,
12:15at the Grammys, she's nominated 11 times,
12:18including four country categories,
12:20making Cowboy Carter the most nominated album
12:23in Grammy history.
12:25♪ This ain't Texas, ain't no holdin' ♪
12:29Will Beyonce be the country queen tonight?
12:31Well, I have Billboard's deputy and executive editors,
12:33Lindsay and Melinda here to help us figure that out.
12:36What do you guys think?
12:37Ooh, I hope so.
12:38I'm rooting for her.
12:39I think it's gonna be a big night.
12:41She has so many nominations across the board.
12:43She has a nomination in all four of the country categories.
12:47That's the first time that's ever happened
12:48for a black woman.
12:49Really, even like Mickey Guyton?
12:50Exactly, very good memory.
12:51Mickey Guyton had three a couple of years ago,
12:54but Beyonce has a clean sweep in terms of nominations.
12:57I think if she wins in all four of the country categories,
12:59that would obviously be amazing,
13:01but all eyes are on Album of the Year for this.
13:03Oh, always Album of the Year and Beyonce.
13:05It always eludes her.
13:07It always eludes her,
13:08but I really think that given where things are at,
13:11given the nature of this show,
13:12it's a benefit concert,
13:14it's about community and this healing power of music,
13:16and this album was really also about community.
13:19She brought back people from country music's past,
13:22country music's future,
13:24and I think she united them all
13:25on this perfect gift of an album,
13:27and so to see her win for that
13:29in the biggest category of the night would be phenomenal.
13:31And it would probably make Jay-Z happy
13:33after his speech last year.
13:35That was kind of a big moment.
13:36And how do you feel, Melinda,
13:37about the CMAs kind of snubbing her, if you will,
13:40and saying, like, we're not giving her any nominations?
13:42It's a very different voting body.
13:44It's the Grammy voting body is a much broader voting body
13:48in the way that you can vote for certain categories.
13:50It's a little bit apples and oranges,
13:52and she also said this is a Beyonce album.
13:55It's not a country album.
13:56I do remember that post.
13:58Right, and so I think hardcore country voters
14:00may have taken that a little too much to heart,
14:03so I think it'll be very interesting
14:04to see what happens on Sunday.
14:07And talk about country.
14:08It's been interesting in general
14:09with so many kind of new faces popping in.
14:11We had Post Malone jumping into country.
14:13Lindsay loves her some Posts.
14:15And even Shaboose himself was kind of new to the genre.
14:17So how did you guys feel about this introduction
14:19of new faces?
14:20I love that the two of them were on Cowboy Carter,
14:22as was Miley Cyrus, you know,
14:24someone who has country roots,
14:25but has never really done a proper country album.
14:28And they all sound so natural in this lane.
14:31And yeah, to then see Shaboose go on
14:33and have a record-tying Hot 100 number one hit
14:36is amazing.
14:37Post Malone's album, of course, I loved it.
14:39But I just think at the root of it
14:41is phenomenal storytelling.
14:42That's what we're getting with these artists
14:44dipping a toe into country music is,
14:46we're getting the really fun, twangy production,
14:49but we're also just getting really good songwriting.
14:51And I think you look, Miley's nominated this year
14:54because of her work with Beyonce.
14:56Noah Kahn's nominated because of his work
14:59with Kelsey Ballerini.
15:01Artists don't recognize genres anyway.
15:03It's just kind of a construct.
15:04And I love that you're just seeing
15:07any of these perceived borders coming down.
15:09And they're like, let's just make music with people
15:11we wanna make music with.
15:12And I know we were talking about the CMAs a second ago
15:15and how Beyonce wasn't nominated,
15:16but we are talking about Shaboose now,
15:17and he was nominated, but didn't win.
15:20So do you think it even sets him up
15:21for a different night at the Grammys?
15:23He's still a new artist,
15:24and I hope he just goes in and has a great time.
15:28And just enjoys the spirit of the evening.
15:31Like Lindsay was saying,
15:32it's gonna be a different tone at this Grammy show
15:37that I think we're just gonna see
15:38a little bit more gratitude this year.

15:48But this year, there's a renewed sense of purpose.
15:50We hung out with The Game for a more in-depth look
15:53at the historic loss in Alphadena.

16:08This is some serious, serious business, man.
16:11And after this experience,
16:13now when I hear a fire truck coming down the street,
16:16I'm pulling over and I'm not annoyed.
16:18Because usually it's like,
16:19ah, I got to pull over quick.
16:21Then we go to our kitchen.
16:23You know I like to eat.
16:25Capo good, he a good cook.
16:27Yeah.
16:28The best.
16:29The best, right?
16:30Yeah.
16:31The Hearst fire has grown to over 500 acres
16:34since last night.
16:35So you guys went up?
16:36I mean, I was here the day that everything happened.
16:39It was myself and one of the partners,
16:41but unfortunately he's not here.
16:42How was that?
16:43It was one event where we thought
16:45that something was going to happen
16:46and it just led to something way out of our hands.
16:51I like my hat's on, but it's off to you guys, man.
16:54Like, yeah.

17:13These guys are personal friends of mine.
17:15They're high school coaches here.
17:17This is actually Tony's crib
17:18that he grew up in right now.
17:19It's his mom's crib right there.
17:21But all of them have their unique stories
17:23about how they were devastated right there.
17:26But this was a predominantly African-American neighborhood.
17:29And just to see this, this is terrible, man.
17:32And you coming out says a lot about you, man.
17:35And so I like that everybody introduced themselves
17:37and tell them what school you coach at.
17:39Not only was these fires big for our basketball program,
17:44which two of our players lost their homes,
17:46but I also have residential treatment centers for kids.
17:49So I have group homes for kids
17:51and we lost our girls' house.
17:52I'm a Pasadena resident.
17:54We had two players on our team that lost their homes.
17:56This is my parents' home, Haywood and Jean Brooks.
18:02So obviously it's impacted me in a direct way.
18:06At Pasadena High School,
18:08we have two players that lost their homes.
18:10Just like the rest of the coaches here,
18:11we've, you know, several people,
18:13family members who've lost their homes,
18:15players on the team that's lost their homes,
18:18families displaced, you know, out of town, out of the city.
18:21There was a lot of African-Americans that moved here
18:24because in other parts of Los Angeles County,
18:27if you were an African-American family or couple
18:30and you wanted to buy a house,
18:32you were redlined and you could not get a house
18:34in certain areas.
18:35Altadena was one of those first areas
18:37that opened up for African-Americans.
18:40And so I say all that because I want to put out a message
18:44to all Altadenans that are going through this tragedy,
18:48but I just want to encourage people to rebuild
18:51and to not leave Altadena.
18:53If you're in the Los Angeles Dodgers
18:55or you're in the Los Angeles Lakers
18:56and you have a means to help,
18:59if you're really from LA, be about it.

19:11and help with the gathering of the supplies
19:14and distribution of it.

19:18We know it's a long haul and many, many members of ours,

19:25and obviously the community, you know,
19:27many, many people in the community
19:29and businesses have been affected.
19:30So anything little that we can do to contribute back
19:34is what we're trying to do.
19:36You know, when you say, you know,
19:38the credit union and you guys are doing your little part,
19:40I, as soon as I wanted to stop you there
19:42because I think that anybody doing anything
19:45for anyone in life, whether it was a fire or not,
19:47anybody doing anything for anyone in life is,
19:51can be considered little,
19:52because if you're helping somebody,
19:53the person you're doing it for thinks that's huge.
19:56What you're doing here is amazing.

20:11I have Larry, who's with me,
20:13and a lot of chamber members that have also come here.
20:15But personally, we were affected.
20:18My home, you know, I never would have imagined
20:21this would happen to our community,
20:22not in our wildest dreams.
20:23You can come.
20:25Not in our wildest dreams.
20:27We left on that day thinking we were gonna come back.
20:31We have fires up here all the time.
20:34And we, I even told her, we're not taking anything.
20:37We left with pajamas,
20:40and thinking we're gonna come back the next day,
20:42and I didn't take anything, anything at all.
20:45And there was no tomorrow.
20:47We came back to full destruction,
20:49not only for our house, it's gone, our business.
20:52So we're a complete standstill,
20:54and I know that we're not alone.
20:55I know that as Altadenas,
20:58we're strong and we're gonna rebuild.
21:01I always told myself if my city was ever affected,
21:04or any of the surrounding area cities,
21:09that as a parent and as a father,
21:13I would like dive in.
21:16So if, just here, we're here today, right?
21:19As humans.
21:21If you see me somewhere, just know that I'm standing there,
21:26like I'm standing here with y'all today.
21:28And I don't know where I'm going when I leave my house,
21:32I don't know what I'm doing,
21:33I just know that I'm gonna affect somebody positively.
