Viktor Orban has pledged to block the next rollover of EU sanctions against Russia unless the bloc helps achieve a restart of Russian gas transit via Ukraine. The Hungarian Prime Minister said Ukraine's move to halt Russian gas transit to Central Europe from January 1 and the resulting rise in prices was "unacceptable".

00:00The fact that Ukraine does not want to allow Russian gas to reach Central Europe and thus raise the price of the gas,
00:09which is followed by everything else, even the fuel, is unacceptable.
00:14That is why we were forced to say very seriously and firmly that if they do not change this,
00:19then we will abolish the sanctions now, because no country can do this.
00:23The situation is that the sanctions must be decided in half a year.
00:27And if they do not, then we will not only get to the point where we impose the sanctions,
00:32but we will also abolish them.
00:34So if this committee does not comply with what we have agreed, then the sanctions will be over.
