00:00Five Chinese nationals were arrested by the authorities who were assisted by a spy who fled to the Philippines.
00:07According to the National Bureau of Investigation-NBI,
00:10five Chinese nationals and one Chinese national were arrested because they fled to the Philippines as spies.
00:17Ian Cruz has the first news.
00:19January 17, the authorities arrested Deng Yuanqing and two Filipinos in Makati City because they fled to the Philippines as spies.
00:30But it wasn't all over yet.
00:33On January 24, the authorities arrested two Chinese from Palawan in Naia Terminal 3.
00:41In these videos, drones were flying over the suspects in Ulugan Bay in Palawan
00:47where some Philippine Navy ships were sailing towards the West Philippine Sea.
00:52According to a witness, it was not until January 20 to 23 that he saw the Chinese in their area.
00:59I just noticed that they were moving.
01:03They were just taking pictures of the Navy ship.
01:07On January 25, two more Chinese were arrested in Binondo and Intramuros in Manila.
01:14In a condo unit in Manila, a military-grade CCTV was installed.
01:20It was able to monitor the movements of Philippine Coast Guard and Navy ships going out and entering Manila Bay.
01:27And in a follow-up operation in Dumaguete City,
01:30another Chinese who is said to be leading the field commander in spying was arrested.
01:36He lived in Dumaguete because he has a Filipino wife.
01:40The NBI also showed the CCTV camera of the suspects and the solar panel that gives power here.
01:48The NBI said that five new arrests were about to happen.
01:54We have witnesses who were able to execute Ate David.
01:59This group is one.
02:02They always have meetings in Palawan.
02:05According to the Bureau of Immigration, the group has been going back and forth in the Philippines for a long time.
02:10They have embedded themselves in our society.
02:14That's one thing that we have noticed that they are all the same.
02:18Some of them have been working here with a working visa.
02:22Some of them already have a Filipino wife and have been here.
02:27The earliest record that we have of them was 2002.
02:32Some of them are members of the organization.
02:35That's why the Chinese and some officials of the country are also impressed.
02:40This is part of their method.
02:43They employ deception and exploitation.
02:46They would disguise themselves as harmless or members of a legitimate organization.
02:50And they would establish contact with individuals who have access to valuable information.
02:54The NBI and the Armed Forces of the Philippines believe
02:57that the Chinese who were arrested for espionage in the Philippines are just the tip of the iceberg.
03:04There are still many of us who can be arrested for such activities.
03:15And we are in the process of also building up the intelligence against this.
03:22The other suspects did not speak when we asked them, but their leader insisted.
03:27They said you're a spy.
03:29I'm a negotiator. I'm not a spy. I'm not a spy. I'm not a spy.
03:33I'm not a spy. I'm not a spy. I'm not a spy. I'm not a spy.
03:40They said you're a spy. Are you a spy?
03:45We are not a spy. We are a negotiator. We are not a spy.
03:50The Philippine-Chinese civic leader, Teresita Angsi, called on the NBI and AFP
03:56to conduct a fair investigation.
03:59The story needs to be brought to light before the arrested are considered spies.
04:04What we want is an impartial investigation.
04:10The story needs to be brought to light before the arrested are considered spies.
04:18Just from getting equipment inside his car, why did you conclude like that?
