00:00Bridget Jones is back, stepping into a new era just as she is. So tonight we're here
00:12at the world premiere to chat to the stars of Bridget Jones' Mad About the Boy.
00:30Hello. You look amazing. I love your dress. Thank you. It's very, very nice. Thank you.
00:48You look even better. Aww, charmer. I can see why you got the part now. It's so great
00:53to meet you. You too. Do you realise that you have become the internet's favourite now?
00:57No, no. I don't think that's true, but that's very sweet of you. Honestly, I promise you,
01:02you're amazing in this. Thank you. I love your character. Did you ever think as an actor
01:06you would be in a Bridget Jones movie? No, no. I mean, it's very surreal, it's very special
01:14and I'm soaking it all up. What was it like working with Renee in this role? Because it's
01:20so iconic, right? I mean, she's one of the best people on the planet. She really is.
01:25She's so unbelievably kind and warm and I'm very lucky to have worked with her. I'm also
01:32a bit worried for Tom Daley after this because your dive into the pool was pretty exceptional.
01:37I hope Tom's seen it. I want feedback. I'll make sure he's seen it, but yes, the internet
01:41loves you. I just want you to know that. Thank you. You were Glaswegian? Glaswegian, yeah.
01:45I said I was Glaswegian. Really? Oh, lovely.
01:56Hello, Mr. Wallacher. Where's your whistle? Yeah, exactly. You're the first person to
02:12ask me, actually. I was going to bring one for you and then I thought, I'm loud enough,
02:16they'll probably throw me off the carpet. The pink carpet. Listen, how does it feel
02:20we're at the world premiere? How does it feel to be here on the pink carpet celebrating
02:24Bridget? Yeah, absolutely amazing. It's a wonderful night and very, very, very excited
02:29for people to see the film and to engage with this little world that we've been creating
02:37and this new chapter. After all these other amazing chapters over 20-something years of
02:44Bridget and what she's brought. It's such an iconic franchise. How do you feel when
02:49they ask you to get involved in it and can you keep your cool when you're on set? It's
02:53really intimidating, actually. That first day, it doesn't matter how many other things
02:57you've done, it's surprising how you're walking onto a Bridget Jones set for the first time
03:02and you think, oh, right, okay. How's this going to go? And then Renee is amazing and
03:08so welcoming and engaging. And then actually this character, I just had a really fun time
03:14playing Wallacher and I just thought he had such really great depth and his subtext and
03:22how he looks at the world and how he changes in the film as well. All of it, I thought
03:27was great. He's quite a serious guy. Was it nice when he starts to loosen up a little
03:31bit? Yeah, it takes him a bit of time, but he gets there. He gets rid of the whistle.
03:36He does. The whistle is left to the side at a certain point, but he's a very, very fun
03:43and that warmth that he does have, I thought was really great. Do you think that's a testament
03:48to Bridget and what she brings out in people? Yeah, but also he does have, she sees that
03:53part of him as well and him with her kids and he's an educator and he has this way of
04:01wanting to bring out of Billy, Bridget's son and just the people that are around him, I
04:09think generally, understanding what their needs are. I think that's very instinctive
04:13for him as a teacher and so she also sees sides of him that I think maybe other people
04:19don't see as easily. And just finally then, you've obviously done so many amazing things
04:24throughout your career, but how does it feel to be a Roncon heartthrob? Feels great! You
04:30play it very, very well. Nice to see you. Thank you so much. Thank you.
04:44It's lovely to see you. It's nice to see you here on the pink carpet. I'm a massive Bridget
04:50Jones fan. How does it feel that you've got to evolve with your character and Bridget
04:54in this way? It's so special, right? It's just lovely to have lasted that long, the
05:00story, you know, and that people are still interested, so we're really happy. And what
05:04was it like when you all sat down and you were like, right, where are these characters
05:07at now? That must have been fun too, right? It is, and just to be together is enough really,
05:12you know, just pull us back together and we're happy. Do you feel like it's a lifelong
05:16bond now? I think so, yeah. Yeah, the minute we're together we're just relaxed and, you
05:21know, just chit-chat away and it's like it was yesterday's the last time we saw each
05:25other. And for us watching it, seeing all the characters interact, it's so magical,
05:29like we get so nostalgic. Did it feel like that when you were on set too? Always, yeah.
05:34This one felt, because it's such a long time, it felt just special, just like we really
05:39care about each other, so it was nice. I was bawling my eyes out, I had a cap on and
05:43my glasses and I'm so glad, because I was crying my eyes out. Have you seen it yet?
05:47I haven't, you've seen it obviously? Yeah. Oh, okay. I was going to say how did you feel
05:50when you first watched it, but I'll say no more, just make sure you've got the tissues.
05:54Alright then, okay then. Unless you're an icon, it's so nice to see you. Thank you so
05:57much. All the best to you. Bye!
06:10Oh, I remember you now. Yeah, I had my little hat on. It's lovely to see you. Nice to see
06:17you. I'm a massive fan of Bridget Jones. How special does it feel to be here tonight celebrating
06:22her? Fantastic, isn't it? After all this time, who would have imagined? And here we are.
06:27It's great. What was it like for you revisiting her dad, because that character's so iconic.
06:34It was just so easy. There we were. It just all felt completely natural, as if no time
06:41had passed. It was the same fun we had before. How special was it getting to reunite with
06:50the cast and see how these characters have developed? Well, I didn't have much to do
06:55with all of them. My scene was with Gemma and Renee. That was it. So I didn't see all
07:01the other gang. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone later. Have you seen the movie yet?
07:05I haven't seen the movie yet, no. Okay, well, that scene I watched with you, I was bawling
07:10my eyes out. You made me cry, Gem. So you did a good job. Sorry about that. That's okay.
07:16It's so lovely to see you again, Gem. Thanks for your time. Thank you.
07:32Lovely to see you. How are you doing? Hello. How are you? Is that a wee time? Yes, it is.
07:37Did you know I was coming? Of course. That's what it's all about. Listen, I am a massive
07:43Bridget Jones fan. Oh, brilliant. How special was it for you getting to direct her in this
07:48chapter of her life? Oh, it was massively thrilling from the beginning to the end, because
07:54what we love about Bridget, at least what I love about Bridget, is that I've seen myself
07:59as Bridget, but I haven't been pregnant. But other than that, well, on the other side
08:03of it, I have. And I've just seen myself go through life, right? And that's what we do.
08:08And here we are, 20-something years later, and she's going through life. And it's a real
08:12pleasure to go through that, you know, with her. How magical was it seeing Renee and Hugh
08:17and all the gang back together? Oh, it was amazing. Because who told you? From the very
08:20first time we got together and read the script at the table read, it felt like something
08:25was happening, something real was happening. And as a fan, was it hard for you to contain
08:29the excitement at times? At times, at times, yeah. Well, especially when you first see,
08:34you know, Hugh and Renee together, and then introducing Chiwetel and Leo, who are such
08:40good actors. And just to see them take to it, just as if they've been in that group
08:45for years, it's brilliant. And Bridget has taught me so much throughout the years. In
08:49this film, she's taught me that it's okay to get ghostly, and it's okay not to get lip
08:53filler. Yes, it's two good lessons, yeah, you're right. What are some of the things
08:58you hope people take away from this film? I think that it's like, with all of the...
09:04That's a great question. I think we're like, with a lot of the Bridget films, it's okay
09:08to mess up, it's okay to stumble. You know, we don't need to... A lot of times, movies,
09:12whether they know they're doing it or not, try and tell us that everything's got to be
09:16perfect, you've got to look perfect, you've got to do everything perfectly, be on time,
09:19be on top of your game. It's okay, we're human. We mess up, and we fail, and it doesn't change
09:26who we are. And not everyone needs one thumper, not everyone needs it. That's right. Thank
09:30you so much, nice to see you. Thank you so much, cheers.
09:50So, what we're going to do is, we're going to turn it upside down so you can see what's
09:55happening. We're going to turn it upside down so you can see what's going on. This is so
10:00much fun, I'm not going to lie to you, because this is so great, and it's going to be really
10:05fun, and you're going to get to see some artists in person, and you're going to get to see
10:10some people in person, and it's going to be great.
10:20Cheers.
10:26I love your outfit, by the way.
10:28Thank you. Thank you for coming to my wedding, to Hugh Grant.
10:31Thank you for inviting me. I'm so happy to be here, and I'm so glad that you rolled out
10:34the pink carpet as well.
10:36This is beautiful. Oh, and you're pink too!
10:39Had to do it, had to do it.
10:42Thank you. We're just having a love-in.
10:44We're just loving.
10:45Just loving.
10:46Who cares about the movie?
10:47Exactly! Do you know what I think it is, though? Bridget gives off love vibes, doesn't she?
10:52She just gives off warmth and it rubs off often.
10:54She does.
10:55How special was it getting to be a part of Bridget's world?
10:58You know, it's crazy because I love the films, and then it's like you're climbing into the
11:03screen and you're becoming part of the story, so it's a bit surreal, but because she's so
11:09welcoming and kind and all the things you'd expect and more, it's just a brilliant experience.
11:16Was it hard not to fangirl?
11:18I had to fangirl quite hard, because there was about a week where I thought, if I don't
11:22leave this set with her as my best friend, I fail. I didn't care about the role, and
11:28I was trying maybe a bit too hard, but in week two, I got her.
11:33So are you on WhatsApp terms now? That's the most important thing.
11:36It's actually direct text.
11:39Even better.
11:40She came to my fortieth.
11:41Do you feel like you've peaked now, like that's it?
11:44Do you know what? You just want a sprinkle of A-list in your life. I don't want it too
11:49soaked, just a little sprinkle.
11:51Have you seen the film yet?
11:54Have you?
11:55All of you. You've made me cry so much.
11:58Really?
11:59Because it's an emotional rollercoaster.
12:01That's good to hear.
12:02Listen, it's so lovely to see you. Thank you so much. I hope the mascara stays on for the
12:06rest of your wedding.
12:07Thank you. Thank you for wearing pink and looking fabulous in this cold.
12:10You look amazing.
