According to a recent report carried out by Gateshead Council, Domestic Abuse is the largest reason for homelessness in Gateshead.

00:00According to Gateshead Council figures, 313 people were made homeless in the area as a
00:05result of domestic abuse between 2023 and 2024.
00:10Official local authority statistics have tracked a decline in domestic abuse-related homelessness
00:14from 2021 to 2022, with 399 cases, and 2022 to 2023, with 270 cases.
00:24The report reads,
00:25Although the volume of cases where domestic abuse was identified as the reason for loss
00:29of settled home is falling year on year, in 2023 to 2024, domestic abuse remains the largest
00:36reason for homelessness in Gateshead.
00:39The number of approaches to the Council's housing solution services for homelessness
00:42still remains extremely high.
00:45Since 2021 to 2022, Gateshead Council has also seen a year-on-year increase of the number
00:50of placements for temporary accommodation, including Council facilities, bed and breakfast
00:55and other Council-paid shelter.
