00:00The fact is, I am just a filmmaker still trying to find my craft.
00:28And especially in front of all the legendary filmmakers in this room.
00:35People always say that I haven't studied filmmaking.
00:38Actually, I have studied a lot of filmmaking.
00:41I have studied filmmaking while working with the people here.
00:45They are the best universities to learn from.
00:48I was fortunate to work with a lot of people here as an actor.
00:54Every day, every scene, every shot was a tuition for me.
01:05When they see my films, they ask me who inspired me.
01:08Because of my scope and scope of work,
01:12Hollywood films, my inspirations are Joshi sir, Shaji sir and Sathyan sir.
01:20I don't know if Sivi sir is here.
01:23I have been brought up on Malayalam cinema.
01:26So my inspiration is all these legends sitting here.
01:29I have to switch to Malayalam now, unfortunately.
01:32I have only done the courtesy of inviting and welcoming Laika to Malayalam cinema.
01:39I would like to thank a lot of people for the release of this film.
01:45I will have to start with my family, Supriya and my daughter.
01:50Supriya and my daughter don't like me directing films.
01:53Because I stay away from home a lot.
01:56Because of the process of directing my films,
01:59I have to stay away from my family for many months.
02:04When I act in films, I go home on days when I don't have a shoot.
02:08My daughter asks me if I am a director or an actor.
02:12Because she thinks if I am a director, I will go home.
02:16So thank you for putting up with the absence.
02:18Thank you for dealing with an absentee father and a husband.
02:22There is someone I have to mention.
02:25My friend, my brother, my producer, Antony Perumbavoor.
02:31When we dream about cinema,
02:34I think people who dream big are eccentric.
02:42I used to confidently say that no one is as crazy as me.
02:46There is someone who is as crazy as me.
02:48That is Antony Perumbavoor.
02:52I think Antony Perumbavoor is the person who understands cinema the most.
03:02After writing a script for Murali,
03:06I had a fight with Murali for a while.
03:09After that, when both of us are mutually on the same place,
03:12I narrate the script to my producer and my lead star.
03:17I narrated the script for Murali to Lal sir and Antony in Dubai's Ashradhan office.
03:27As usual, Lalettan said,
03:29Antony, that girl is saying 5-6 helicopters.
03:31That's all he said.
03:33But in that narration, he understood cinema.
03:40Sometimes, he would ask me,
03:42Anma, where are you going?
03:46I always say,
03:48I have a producer who understands cinema like my associate director and chief technician.
03:56That is my biggest strength.
03:58Thank you for supporting me.
04:00After this film, we should do a big film.
04:04Of course, I don't know how to thank you.
04:11I call him Lalettan now.
04:14This whole thing would not have been possible if not for him.
04:22I know there is a bit of a cliché in it.
04:32But when I did Lucifer,
04:34there was absolutely no guarantee whether I would be able to make a film or not.
04:43My producer took a big punt.
04:46He said, okay, he can make a film with the way he narrates the story.
04:50I still remember,
04:52when I was thinking about making a sequence in Lucifer,
05:01when Antony came,
05:03he said, Anma, Lal sir is calling you.
05:06That's when I understood.
05:08I went to Lalettan's caravan.
05:10He asked me, son, how are you going to make that sequence?
05:12My producer was there.
05:14I told him, this is how it is.
05:16He asked, do you need that sequence?
05:18I said, yes, definitely.
05:20He said, Antony, definitely.
05:22He will make it for you.
05:24Immediately, Lalettan.
05:26So, not only as an actor,
05:31but also as a driving force,
05:33Lal sir was with me in these two films.
05:35What I want to say about Emperor is that,
05:38in my career,
05:40I have not been part of another film that has had to face so many obstacles from weather.
05:49Right from our very first schedule in Leh Ladakh,
05:54to our very last schedule in Palakkad.
05:57And in between this, we pretty much travelled around the world.
06:00Every country, every place,
06:02we had run-ins with weather.
06:04What happens is, obviously,
06:06a lot of money goes waste.
06:08A lot of time goes waste.
06:16So, at an extremely busy time,
06:19I took Lal sir for a shoot in Gujarat.
06:22I took him for a shoot for my Climax Portions.
06:25For weeks, Lal sir was there without a shoot.
06:29Every morning,
06:31around 11.30-12 am,
06:33you realise that the shoot is not going to happen today,
06:36because it is going to rain heavily.
06:38So, I go to Lal sir's room.
06:40I go there to tell him,
06:43Sir, the shoot is not going to happen today.
06:45So, there won't be any work today.
06:47So, even after a day,
06:49I was like,
06:51I am trying to finish this film,
06:53but he has come up with a lot of other things.
06:55After the 5th or 6th day,
06:58I will never forget this.
07:00One day, I went to him and said,
07:02Sorry, the shoot is not happening today.
07:04He said, that's okay.
07:06You just have to do a good job.
07:08I will never forget that.
07:12It is a lesson for me as a filmmaker.
07:14It is a lesson for me as an actor.
07:16Thank you, Lalettan, for being who you are.
07:20Without you,
07:22I don't know if any of this will happen.
07:24I don't even know if I will be a director.
07:28I keep saying, I was an accidental director.
07:30Murali, my brother,
07:32asked me if I would direct a film.
07:36I said yes.
07:38I pitched it to Antony Perumal and Lal sir.
07:40Lal sir said, we will do it.
07:42That's how I became a director.
07:44So, I completely owe my directorial career
07:46to Lal sir, Antony and Murali.
07:50And coming to Murali,
07:52he is the reason that I am doing this now.
07:54Because,
07:56I didn't see Murali to direct Lucifer.
08:02When we were acting together in another film,
08:04it happened by accident.
08:06Lucifer.
08:08It is a very famous film.
08:10When we started discussing Lucifer,
08:12we knew that
08:14this is not a story that can be told in one film.
08:16At that time,
08:18part 1 and part 2 were not very fashionable.
08:20When we talk about the third or second part of a film,
08:22people tend to
08:24look down on it.
08:30So, obviously,
08:32when we did part 1,
08:34we decided not to talk about part 2.
08:36So, let's not talk about it now.
08:40Why I am coming here is,
08:42we are here today
08:44to talk about what happened in part 1.
08:46So, Murali and I,
08:48as co-creators,
08:50have to thank
08:52the cinema audience.
08:54Because,
08:56they are the reason
08:58for the success of Lucifer part 1.
09:00They are the biggest reason
09:02for the creation of Emperor.
09:04If it was not for that,
09:06this film would not have happened.
09:08Thank you so much.
09:10Emperor is a very ambitious film.
09:12There are many people
09:14who have stood by me.
09:16Earlier, you got to know
09:18my 4 chief technicians on stage.
09:20My DOP, my editor,
09:22my production designer
09:24and my music director.
09:26They are not just 4 people.
09:28I have a big team.
09:30My costume designer, Sujith Sudhakaran,
09:32my director, Rejith Guruvayoor,
09:36my associate director, Vavai,
09:38my creative director, Nirmal Sahadev,
09:40my assistants.
09:42I believe,
09:44I have the world's best team.
09:46I believe, I am the best team in the world.
09:52The team that worked with me
09:54in this film,
09:56can handle any big film
09:58in any industry in the world.
10:02That's for sure.
10:04I would like to thank that team.
10:06They pointed out my mistakes.
10:08They stood by me.
10:10They handled my anger.
10:12They guided my vision.
10:16They reminded me of
10:18every scene.
10:20They guided my vision
10:22even during post-production.
10:24We all dreamt of
10:26reaching the end
10:28of the film.
10:30I have a big team.
10:32From my associate director,
10:34from my chief technicians,
10:36to the production boy who worked in this film.
10:38Everyone
10:40is equally deserving of ownership
10:42of this film.
10:44I am not saying everyone's name.
10:46What?
10:48Didn't you hear?
10:50Three?
10:52That's a direct question
10:54to the producer.
10:56Three?
11:00I have a request.
11:02Do you have any update
11:04on that, Prithviraj?
11:06Yes.
11:08As I said,
11:10Part 2
11:12is a big success.
11:14Let it be.
11:16Let's do it.
11:18Three is not like this.
11:20It's a big film.
11:24If the audience
11:26appreciates this success,
11:28it will happen.
11:30We can't sit and do nothing.
11:32The story has to end.
11:38Part 1 is over.
11:40If we want,
11:42we can do without Part 2.
11:44I can say one thing.
11:46When Part 2 ends,
11:48if there is no Part 3,
11:50the story won't be complete.
11:52That's a clear point.
11:54That's a clear point.
11:56That's what I have to say.
11:58When this film ends,
12:00we have to know
12:02the rest of the story.
12:04Let's wait for Part 3.
12:06Let's wait for the audience.
12:08Let's wait.
12:10Anyway, thank you so much
12:12all of you.
12:14Thank you for all your kind words.
12:16Once again, it's great to have you
12:18be part of this really special evening.
12:20There's a lot of work to be done
12:22before 27th of March.
12:24We are all working day and night.
12:26We hope we are able to deliver
12:28a product,
12:30a piece of cinema,
12:32that is worthy of your love
12:34and your adoration.
