00:00Jannik, well done. Do you feel like you saved your best tennis for the final and what were
00:08you most impressed with in your game tonight?
00:10Well, it was an amazing performance from my side. I felt like I was, you know, in the
00:16beginning of the match I was serving really well and trying to get into the zone very
00:22fast. It was a very high-quality match from my side. The second set, I got a bit lucky
00:28on the tyre break, as we saw, but all things considered, amazing run again here in Australia.
00:35I'm extremely happy and sharing this with the team here and family and the people I
00:41love. It's amazing.
00:42Congratulations, Jannik. What was the moment you felt like the dial had swung in your favour
00:50in the process of chipping away and breaking down Zverev's game?
00:54Well, I felt like, you know, how I entered the court trying to be quite aggressive in
01:00the beginning, this gave me the confidence that I feel today, the ball, in a certain
01:05way. When you get up one set, this gives you the confidence. As I said, I had the chances
01:14in the second set with a couple of break points. He always served very well there. But, you
01:20know, it's trying to stay always there mentally, trying to play every point in the best possible
01:25way and, as I said, tyre break, got a bit lucky there. But how I handled every situation
01:32on the court, not only today in the final but in general, was very nice.
01:38Jannik, congratulations. With the Cass appeal now happening before the next Grand Slam,
01:46does that shift your focus at all or is it just business as usual for you up until Roland
01:50Garros?
01:51Tough to say. I mean, I'm not thinking at the moment about this, no. I just came off
01:58an amazing run again here. I want to enjoy this moment, to be honest. And then, you know,
02:06it's the hearing, we know now the dates, and that's it. I mean, I want to enjoy this one now.
02:14Jannik, congratulations, an amazing feat. Sascha mentioned twice during his press conference
02:20that you remind him of Novak when he was at his best. So was Novak really such an inspiration
02:29for you as well as Sascha claims or suggests? And what do you say to that?
02:35Well, it's an amazing compliment from Sascha. I mean, I think everyone is different in a way.
02:43Obviously, I have some similarities with Novak's game style. I still believe when Novak plays
02:51at his best, it's very, very, very tough to beat him. But, you know, game style-wise,
03:04I looked up to him, trying to understand what he's doing, how he handles the pressure moments
03:09in important moments. I still believe we are different as players because everyone is different.
03:16But for sure, we have similarities, and the similarities are having a quite clean ball
03:22strike from the baseline, having a good movement, understanding a little bit where your opponent
03:29plays the ball. Obviously, I aim to improve as a player because I feel like I still can
03:37improve in certain areas, and that's where we are going to work on, and that's it.
03:44Congratulations. Two Grand Slams running now with you, one with other stuff going on in the background.
03:49I just wondered how proud you are of yourself that you've been able to put those things away
03:54and concentrate on your tennis and get the results?
03:57Very proud. I mean, it's actually tough to describe because many, many things happen off the court,
04:06what you maybe don't know. I always try to, when I go on the court, even if sometimes it's very difficult
04:15to block these kind of things, that's a big part. I have my team and the people who are close to me,
04:23who trust me, and that for me is even more important because I can talk very openly with them.
04:28And that's it. I mean, when I go on court, I try to focus on the match. I know the match can be
04:35three, four, five hours, but that's the gap of the day where I have to be very focused.
04:41Obviously, also in the gym, trying to stay into your routine, and then you think a bit less about
04:48what's happening. Of course, it's still a little bit in the back of your mind,
04:52but I know that I'm in this position now, so nothing I can change.
04:59You spoke on court about Darren and his influence. I'm wondering how he's helped you,
05:04what makes him such a special coach, and how can you convince him to try and keep going with you next year?
05:10It's going to be very difficult. Look, he's a very honest person.
05:20To be a good coach with many different players, you have to understand the player,
05:25and you have to get into the rhythm of the player, what he likes, what he doesn't like.
05:31It takes for him just some weeks to get into that, and then he's there.
05:36One thing I really love about him is because he's very, very humble.
05:40He suits into the team very, very good.
05:46I try to make a good result for him here, because being Australian,
05:55last Grand Slam as a coach, but I have to say, we talk a lot about Darren,
06:02but it's also the Simone part, which is amazing, what he's doing.
06:07He changed me as a player. He gave me so much confidence that I can do different stuff.
06:14I think the combination of two incredibly, not only coaches, but persons,
06:20because I feel like coaching is important on court, but mostly also off the court,
06:26and they are very, very good in that.
06:28I got very lucky to find Darren, to find Simone, and all the rest of the team.
06:33We just try to keep working, keep believing, and that's it.
06:40Obviously, there's a lot of stats about how amazing you've been on hard courts,
06:44particularly, and obviously one of the last three hard court Grand Slams in a row now.
06:47Do you feel like you're that much better on hard courts than on the other surfaces,
06:51where you haven't done bad by any stretch?
06:53Or how much do you want to work to be able to win the other two major spaces?
06:58Of course, on hard court I feel more comfortable. I think that we can see.
07:09But I take it as a positive, because on the other surfaces I still have to improve,
07:14I have to see how it works, and I'm going to put a lot of energy in that,
07:18trying to find the right ways, and hopefully to go far also in the other Grand Slams
07:24where I haven't played on hard court.
07:27And then we'll see. As I always say, I'm still young,
07:32and I think I have time to adjust, especially on grass court,
07:37because I've never played the juniors.
07:39It was kind of new when I arrived to the tour,
07:42and then we'll see. It's exactly what I like.
07:47The difficulty is trying to understand where I can improve,
07:50and hopefully I can show that when the season arrives.
07:56Given the uncertainty of the Kass case,
07:59I'm just wondering if that provided any extra motivation at all here to win?
08:04Not really.
08:08What happened, happened.
08:11As I always say, I keep playing like this because I have a clear mind
08:16on what happened.
08:18If I knew I would be guilty, I would not play like this.
08:24And that's it.
08:27I still believe, every time it came out in a very positive way,
08:32and I still believe it's going to be the case.
08:37And that's it. At the moment I'm not thinking about this.
08:40Of course, there have been moments of certain days
08:44where you feel like, I wish I would not have this problem.
08:48But in the other way, I'm always looking forward to going on court
08:53and trying to understand.
08:54Now I also need my time off, which is very important for my body and my mind.
08:59And then when I go back on court, I try to improve.
09:03Last two in English, Mark.
09:06Congratulations.
09:07Just an extension of what Ben was asking you about the other services.
09:10Obviously, you're number one and you've got a fairly sizable gap there.
09:13How important is it to you to win those other Grand Slams
09:16and really assert that authority?
09:19It's for sure one thing I always think about.
09:25Because you have to be a complete player,
09:28not only on one surface but also on the other two.
09:33I believe last year was not a bad season at all,
09:37on clay and also on grass.
09:43I can do better, yes.
09:45But let's see. These are questions I can answer now
09:49by playing in the future.
09:53For sure, we are aiming to get into this rhythm,
09:57into the game style, because it's a bit different game style,
10:01especially on grass, because it's a bit different movement.
10:05And then we'll see.
10:09What's the difference for you between winning the second time
10:13and winning it the first time?
10:17Of course, you have maybe this little extra pressure
10:21and attention on your side, which you have to handle.
10:25But in another way, you know that you can do it.
10:28Because you've done it once, you try to understand
10:31whatever it is.
10:32What I understood this time is that every day is different.
10:36You have days where you might feel a bit not 100%,
10:40and then the next match, all of a sudden,
10:43OK, I'm into the tournament.
10:48I think I've learned many things throughout one year,
10:51not watching about the result, but how I am as a person
10:54and how I handle the situation on the court.
10:58And yeah, so it is different, though.
11:01So I'm very happy to have it.
