Dominic Scurr reacts to Newcastle United's 3-1 win at Southampton.
Transcript
00:00Newcastle United came from 1-0 down to beat Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League at St Mary's this afternoon, making it 10 wins in 11.
00:10Fairdie House side in all competitions. It was another slow start, Newcastle have gone behind in four of the five games in 2025 so far.
00:19And Southampton took the lead through Jan Bednarek, header, free header, really sloppy goal.
00:24Bad start from Newcastle, Southampton's first shot in the game.
00:28Again, it didn't quite click straight away. Newcastle's response took about 10 minutes to come.
00:35Burst into the box, Alexander Isak fouled and lengthy VAR check eventually gives the penalty and Isak equalises in a couple of minutes later.
00:45That puts Newcastle 2-1 up and from there, never really looked back.
00:49Alexander Isak was then denied a 10-minute hat-trick by Alex McCarthy.
00:53That goal there, good save from the Southampton goalkeeper with his legs.
00:57But yeah, Newcastle, again, a bit like Wolves, didn't really have to be at full tilt by any means.
01:03They were poor for long periods, sloppy for periods of the game, but 3-1 could have potentially been 4-5 quite easily.
01:11Joe Linton had a very good chance down there. Sandro Tonali, early in the second half, makes it 3-1.
01:17His third of the season, his first Premier League goal since his debut, but makes it 3-1.
01:22Newcastle never looked back from there, saw the game out relatively easily.
01:25Joe Linton had a chance to make it 4-1, a couple of other chances as well.
01:30Later on, Dan Byrne headed wide, Jacob Murphy hit the post with his left foot.
01:35Joe Willock shot just wide, final kick of the game pretty much.
01:39But yeah, comfortable win for Newcastle, takes them up to fourth temporarily with Manchester City and Chelsea playing later on.
01:47But back to winning ways, it's what Newcastle needed.
01:51Bit of a confidence boost after last weekend against Bournemouth.
01:55You're looking at the bigger picture, one defeat in 11 games and 10 of those being wins.
02:02So happy days for Eddie Howe and his players.
02:05Going to go down to speak to the Newcastle United manager now and you can check all the reaction to that over on the Shields Gazette.
02:11Cheers.
