00:00You might have seen our reactions right before the commercial break this is why
00:04the report starting to flood in in the last five minutes or so about how the
00:09Raiders are hoping to address their head coaching vacancy in Sin City from NFL
00:14Network's Ian Rappaport. The Raiders are turning their attention to former Seahawks
00:19Super Bowl winning head coach Pete Carroll with hopes he'll be their new
00:24head coach. The two sides are in negotiations no deal just yet both Adam
00:30Schefter and Rappaport saying the same thing attempting to change the culture
00:34in Las Vegas. The Raiders target one of the all-time greats and Pete Carroll is
00:40certainly that. Of course was let go at the end of last season after 14 years as
00:47the head man of the Pacific Northwest leading the Seattle Seahawks. Only one
00:52losing season in 14 years with Seattle Donnie but an intriguing hire for Pete
00:59Carroll at the age of 73 would be 74 years old come this upcoming September
01:05for Las Vegas to turn their attention to. I like this move and most people say
01:11like well why that's ridiculous he needs to be a caretaker this is a dead-end job
01:15for the next two to three years it's perfect for Pete Carroll to go there
01:18exactly he does he needs a caretaker and it'll be a caretaker that
01:21organization but I do think you're gonna get structural sort of say
01:25infrastructure that's gonna build for the next couple seasons and when you're
01:29trying to get the best and the brightest to go to the Raiders where your selling
01:33point is hey you get to come out to Vegas and that's where you can live and
01:36we'll say what about the job itself don't worry about that let me show you
01:39some houses let me show you the weather let me show the casinos and the shows
01:41and the food you can eat but what about the football team don't worry about that
01:44because you have three coaches in there that are unbelievable three quarterbacks
01:49that look like they're gonna be unbelievable for at least the next
01:52decade at this point that's a terrible job to take but Pete'll take it right
01:55now so you know what I'll get this job right and I'll hand it off when we are
01:58ready to win with a quarterback and an infrastructure that shows we're being
02:02serious about winning on the football field I think this is a great move for
02:06the Vegas Raiders not because I expect them to win anything but I just think
02:10we're gonna get rid of all the badness if you will over the past few decades
02:14for the Raiders and set yourself up for the future it's a horrible job to take
02:19if you expect to win but it's not a bad paying gig so go ahead and take it
02:23that's where you're at now hey what about the job what about the roster what
02:27about the football operation don't worry man have you seen Flamingo it's a good
02:31time how about the Excalibur that thing is still opening so it's probably your
02:35last under down under night great show I mean yeah he looks like he could still
02:42be in that cast by the way but like that's the funny thing that you just
02:47brought up right it does not seem to be a great job so is Pete Carroll the
02:51fluffer is he the bridge cap to the next young and exciting head coach in three
02:56years I mean that's the way you sold the job I mean that's the way it's
03:03gotta be at this point look he did two years turn it around just give me two
03:06years let's get some fundamentals in here let's get the right front office
03:10group and then we'll be ready to win and you go and get that hot coordinator but
03:15well like it's not like college it's not like Pete's going back to USC where
03:20he can kind of build his program that way there is still a front office now
03:25with a new GM and John spy tech but of course it would see in the inner
03:29workings and his hands involved in Tom Brady with an owner and Mark Davis who
03:33has continued to make bad decision after bad decision does Pete Carroll leave a
03:38culture behind that Joe Brady in two to three years takes over you know like I
03:44know it's not exactly as cut-and-dry as it might be able to be in college
03:48football where you can name your successor so I get what you are saying
03:53they need consistency they need reliability and even turning 74 in
03:59December I believe Pete Carroll can instill that within an organization but
04:03does that carry over after Pete Carroll leaves if he is just a band-aid I'm not
04:10really sure it does but there are instances that we've seen in the past
04:15remember David Cully getting the job for the Houston Texans and they fired him at
04:18the end of the year they go by the way yeah he's only getting one year here but
04:22it's his dream come true to take an NFL coaching job there live not your dream
04:25you're getting canned at the end of the year no matter what you do it feels like
04:29for Pete Carroll it's like boy I just want to be back in the NFL I know I can
04:32coach like you know what we can't we're not gonna sign a five-year big-time
04:36contract with the guys probably gonna be get bailed out after two years but you
04:40do have a coach that's been around winning that is a players coach that can
04:44set the foundation which they haven't had in 25 years on their way to winning
04:48this job is not saying if anybody has a man Pete Carroll missing piece of the
04:52puzzle I expect him to win that division that division is so damn tough over the
04:55next couple years they'd be lucky to be 500 they should throw a parade for the
04:59Vegas Raiders he's just there as a place point to get that organization get the
05:03proper people in the building and then win once he's gone I mean you got to be
05:11in the room meeting with Pete to give him this pitch we will get to our
05:24conference championship weekend pick six I do promise you but the breaking news
05:28that we brought you ten minutes ago where it seemed a rather shocking
05:33development that Pete Carroll and the Raiders were in advanced negotiations
05:37for Pete to become the head coach in Sin City a deal was not done 15 minutes ago
05:43it is now literally 47 seconds ago on the timeline from ESPN's Adam Schefter
05:50just in Pete Carroll and the Raiders have now reached agreement on a three
05:56year deal with a fourth year option Pete Carroll is back in the NFL as Las
06:03Vegas's new head coach yeah when you're messing around X sometimes you get to
06:07get caught up that's not Adam Schlechter at that point right now it is Adam
06:11Schefter actually saying that Pete Carroll is the job because it is quite
06:14surprising that he got it but as I said I do think it's a good move here because
06:17you just need to get some functionality back into that team and I think Pete can
06:22be that guy who can sort of steady the waters set them up for victories and
06:25just wait out Patrick Mahomes Herbert and Bo Nix at this point how about that
06:29Ben I mean I guess yeah I don't know your deal they're not competing yeah no
06:35bet this team is not eating for anything I agree I it and I have talked about the
06:41Raiders before right we have both mentioned it when we were talking about
06:44hiring John Spytek and the arduous task he would have in building a roster and
06:49an organization in the front office to be competitive in the AFC West with all
06:55of the talent around Las Vegas in an organization that has largely been a
06:59failure despite its historic essence from AFL days now in the National
07:05Football League two winning seasons that is it since a Super Bowl run in 2002 to
07:13playoff appearances conveniently in those two winning seasons with Oakland
07:19Las Vegas Pete Carroll's got a lot of work to do but as Donnie said he's more
07:25I guess you could look at it from this perspective he is instilling winning
07:29ways in a franchise that in large part has not had any in the greater portion
07:35of the last two decades plus 14 years Pete Carroll guiding the Seattle Seahawks
07:41a Super Bowl championship another conference championship game appearance
07:46in there as well in 13 winning records in 14 years that is why you bring in Pete
07:52Carroll even at the age of 73 to try to place a stable base in Las Vegas if you
08:00will with a new front office and of course a very well-known minority
08:04ownership stake in Tom Brady yeah look understand this like when Ibraflux was
08:10coming back for another year in Chicago we laughed at that when you know Raheem
08:14Morris got the job in Atlanta was like well I don't know if that's really gonna
08:16work out in their favor so we've been blasting head coaches and not liking
08:20those hires I'm not doing that here I think it's the perfect hire for a team
08:23that's expectations is we just have to get out of the gutter and we might just
08:27be in the gutter by default because of how good these other coaches and
08:30organizations are right now above us this is the perfect chance to sort of lay
08:34the foundation as an organization on the way up and by the time you get good
08:38because understand this they didn't say this was our guy entire way through they
08:43thought they could have had Ben Johnson on the hook which meant like hey yeah
08:46that guy's a generational coach what we feel I don't care what the prospects are
08:50bring him in the reason that he Ben Johnson is in Chicago he feels he can
08:54win better in that organization and the quarterback is there well now you pivot
08:57to okay let's not get ahead of ourselves let's make sure we're doing the right
09:01thing for the franchise itself and I believe the right thing is a guy like
09:04Pete Carroll just to calm the waters and set you up for future success and the
09:09quarterback is not there in Sin City that will have to be addressed Aidan
09:14O'Connell has been fine I don't think he's the future of the franchise the
09:18Raiders hold the sixth overall pick for the 2025 NFL draft right now winning
09:23games at the end of the year that they probably shouldn't have to have a better
09:27opportunity to take a quarterback early in the first round of this upcoming
09:32April's draft and they're going to need to figure out a lot on this roster but
09:38just quickly DRS before we get to that pick six the four head coaches now in
09:42the same division in the AFC West Andy Reid in the Chiefs who have won the
09:47division now nine consecutive seasons Jim Harbaugh with the Chargers they made
09:52the playoffs in his first year Sean Payton with the Broncos they made the
09:56playoffs this year in his second season first year with Bo Nicks at the
10:00quarterback spot in Pete Carroll now in Las Vegas Andy Reid Jim Harbaugh Sean
10:06Payton Pete Carroll that's a historic foursome to say the least no it
10:12certainly is and again competency on all sides of the brand out there you're not
10:16looking at one of these and how that's hilarious this guy's not gonna be able
10:19to compete now granted structurally from the friend a foundation of these teams
10:23we're talking about yeah it's gonna be tough for the Raiders but again nobody's
10:27looking at Pete Carroll is gonna be an incompetent coach and what are you doing
10:30this guy's wanted just about everywhere he's been and certainly is gonna provide
10:33that much needed guidance like hey God there's one thing to be like an
10:36upcoming you know assistant coach when you could sit in that room like I've
10:40coached Hall of Famers and understand this John Snyder the general manager in
10:43Seattle for a long time along with Pete Carroll built some of the best rosters
10:47in the sport which should have had two at least Super Bowl champions as opposed
10:52to one at that point if you just hand the football off but this isn't like hey
10:55Pete just comes in and tries to win no no Pete's been to the pinnacle and
10:59understands what success is from an organizational perspective that's what's
11:03the biggest part big news out of Las Vegas again on this football Friday two
11:09days away from conference championship Sunday in the National Football League
11:13the Raiders have hired a new head coach but a very familiar name in NFL circles
11:19Pete Carroll after 14 years in Seattle a year off in 2024 back in the National
11:25Football League as the Raiders next head coach
