01:18Duterte and the police deny the activists' claim of systematic executions and cover-ups,
01:23saying drug suspects were killed in self-defense.
01:27In 2019, Duterte withdrew the Philippines from the ICC's founding treaty after the court
01:31began investigating the killings, and the country refused to cooperate with the investigation
01:36until recently.
01:39Firefighters successfully contained a rapidly spreading wildfire north of Los Angeles on
01:43Thursday, January 23.
01:46The huge fire, about 50 miles north of Los Angeles, broke out on January 22, while crews
01:51were still battling two other fires on the city's eastern and western sides that had
01:55been burning for over two weeks.
01:58The huge fire burned 10,176 acres but remained steady as 4,000 firefighters dropped water
02:04and retardant from the air.
02:06Evacuation orders are issued for 31,000 residents, and warnings for another 16,000 people, as
02:12the fire sent plumes of smoke over the hilly terrain near Castec Lake close to Santa Clarita.
02:17The fire is content with strong winds and low humidity, which are expected to persist
02:21through Friday.
02:23Rain and mountain snow are forecast for the Los Angeles area from Saturday to Monday,
02:27potentially offering relief but also creating other risks.
02:31Meantime, California Governor Gavin Newsom signs a $2.5 billion relief package for the
02:36fire-ravaged region.
02:40Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's philanthropy arm says on Thursday, January
02:4323, it will provide funding to cover the U.S. contribution to the U.N. Climate Budget.
02:50This after President Donald Trump withdraws the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement
02:53and ends international climate funding.
02:56The organization says Bloomberg Philanthropies, along with other U.S. climate funders, will
03:01ensure that the United States meets its global climate commitments.
03:05This includes covering the annual contribution by the U.S. to the United Nations Framework
03:09Convention on Climate Change, or UNFCCC.
03:13Michael Bloomberg also commits to work with states, cities, and companies to help keep
03:17the U.S. on track with its global climate responsibilities.
03:20Meantime, Bloomberg Philanthropies does not disclose the amounts or the other climate
03:24funders.
03:26The U.S. contributes about 21% of the UNFCCC's core budget.
03:32JL Gaspar, a rising Filipino talent in K-pop, is making waves as a contestant on SBS'
03:38Universe League, the male counterpart to Universe Ticket.
03:41He is the only Filipino contestant and one of the finalists on the show following a successful
03:46journey from local stages in the Philippines to the global K-pop scene.
03:50Before joining Universe League, JL was part of the P-Pop Boy Group PLUS, which debuted
03:54in March 2023 under SB Town.
03:58He trained for four years at the SB Talent Camp, steadily built his career, performing
