00:00On his first full day in office, President Donald Trump attends a prayer service at the
00:04Washington National Cathedral, where Episcopal Bishop Marianne Edgar Buddey delivered a sermon
00:09urging him to protect immigrants and respect gay rights.
00:13This a day after Trump says in his inauguration speech that there were only two genders in
00:17America and signed executive orders to tighten immigration.
00:21Buddey appeals to Trump's mercy for those who were scared of what is to come.
00:24I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear
00:29that their parents will be taken away, and that you help those who are fleeing war zones
00:34and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here.
00:40Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger.
00:46Trump appeared displeased during the sermon and later dismissed it as, quote, not too
00:50exciting.
