00:00Many companies hired senior high school graduates last year.
00:04Noel Talaca is the report. Rise and shine, Noel.
00:10In 2021, K-12 or senior high school graduate, Eliza,
00:14spent 8 months before she found a job.
00:18In my experience, she didn't find a job for a long time after graduating from K-12.
00:25She got a technical vocational livelihood or TVL track in K-12.
00:29But she didn't use it because most of the people she applied to
00:33were college graduates or those who received certificates from TESDA.
00:38There are still people who need to take ALS or TESDA.
00:42That's why she didn't choose a job.
00:45K-12 is still not connected to the work that I have now.
00:50According to an online article of the Philippine Business for Education or PBED,
00:54in 2024, there are companies in the country that are accepting K-12 graduates.
01:01According to their Job Outlook Survey,
01:044 out of 5 companies in the country are hiring senior high school graduates.
01:092 out of 5 companies have police officers hiring senior high school graduates.
01:16But it also shows in their studies that there are still companies
01:20that want to hire college graduates and have experience.
01:25In fact, 1 out of 5 companies in the country
01:28are just accepting those who have work experience in an entry-level job.
01:33That's why this month, the Department of Education of DepEd
01:35helped stakeholders, the private sector, and other industries
01:41to strengthen their senior high school program and ensure that they are future-ready.
01:47In a statement, Education Secretary Sani Angara stated
01:52that senior high school graduates should be able to get a job
01:56so that they can live a good life.
02:00The Alliance of Concerned Teachers also called for the curriculum in K-12
02:06to meet the needs of students towards the development of the country's economy.
02:13Education Secretary Sani Angara also stated
02:16that the purpose of the senior high school program
02:19is to ensure that a student has a clear choice in his or her career
02:25and that he or she will be able to achieve his or her goals.
02:28Noel Talacay for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
