00:00Freedom of expression versus censorship, MEPs delivered fundamentally different opinions on Tuesday during a debate on European regulation of digital services.
00:11The owner of social media network X, Elon Musk, was on almost everyone's lips.
00:16The new Trump administration is a huge opportunity for Europe because Europe needs to and I'm convinced will get its act together
00:24to have more independence, to be even further integrated, to complete some of the big projects that were already there for quite a while
00:33so that we are our own continent and do not need to rely on the US as an ally, as a friend.
00:40Many MEPs are calling on the European Commission to fully apply EU regulations and therefore take action against Elon Musk for alleged breaches of the law on digital services.
00:53We need more investments in the field of security and defence.
00:59If we want to have more influence on our own future, if we don't want to be a playground for the others, then it means that it is time to act.
01:09It means that we have to regulate better, maybe we have to regulate less on the one hand and on the other hand we have to integrate more.
01:17There are voices in the chamber who believe that the European regulation actually resists freedom of expression and that its implementation should be questioned.
01:28What we would like to do is to kind of be an alternative to Europe in many ways
01:33and of course obviously continuing what we have been doing for the last two decades, contributing to Europe's digitalization
01:39and I think also help Europe to basically prepare for AI, become AI ready.
01:46The Commission has opened proceedings against Axan Matter. Both investigations are still in progress.
01:52In the event of an infringement, fines can reach up to 6% of the company's global turnover.
