The final for the competition to name one of the machines the Council are using to keep roads in Kent ice-free.
Transcript
00:00While their musical chops may be ice cold, Kent County Council's griffin drivers play
00:29a crucial role in keeping 1,300 miles of Kent's roads safe during the winter.
00:38There's just one problem.
00:39One of their 64 Gritters is in need of a name.
00:44We always salute the Kent Gritters.
00:46I feel like they're unsung heroes in the county because they're the guys that keep us moving
00:50when the roads go to pot, basically.
00:53We were just like, do you know what would be cool?
00:55If we could actually name a Kent Gritter.
00:57Of course, not thinking it would happen.
00:58I was being enthusiastic beyond belief to think it could work out.
01:05And then all of a sudden I get a call last Wednesday from Gary, who's part of the Kent
01:09Gritting team.
01:10So he actually drives the gritting machines out there and lays the salt on the roads.
01:15And his Gritter has no name.
01:18So he offered up the opportunity for the KMFM listeners to name his Gritter, basically.
01:24And that's where it all stemmed from.
01:26Of the 400 names submitted as part of the Name a Gritter competition, five have managed
01:33to ice out the competition.
01:35And you'll have until Thursday to decide whether you'll be chanting Luke Grittler's name, supporting
01:41Orlando Blooming Cold, staying faithful with Claudius Sprinkleman, roaring your approval
01:50for Grittasaurus Rex, or simply clicking on Control-Salt-Delete.
01:55The winner will then be announced on Ben's Getting You Home show on Friday.
02:01And whichever name wins will be printed on the side of the machine that Kent's most unusual
02:07rap group will get the chance to use every day this winter.
02:12Oliver Leader, The Saks, for KMTV.
