Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. Soon after his inauguration, he signed a series of executive orders to cheers from his supporters. Taiwanese lawmakers in Washington, D.C. for the inauguration are maintaining optimism that ties with Taipei will flourish under Trump.

00:21Overcoming multiple assassination attempts and a felony conviction, Trump has completed
00:27one of the greatest political comebacks.
00:29Now promising swift action on key campaign issues like immigration.
00:35Today I will sign a series of historic executive orders.
00:40First, I will declare a national emergency at our southern border.
00:46Delivering on those words, the President went on to sign several executive orders at an
00:51inaugural rally where supporters turned up in droves.
00:58Tens of thousands of people have lined up on the streets of D.C., braving frigid temperatures
01:03to attend and witness Donald Trump's inauguration at the Capital One Arena over there.
01:08The line starts on this side of the street, goes down that way and snakes all the way
01:13around.
01:14There's a sense of excitement here and we spoke to a few people online to get a sense
01:18of what they're thinking on inauguration day.

01:50Lawmakers from Taiwan were also at the Capital One Arena.
01:55While the delegation's leader, legislative speaker Han Kuo-yu, and representative to
01:59the U.S., Alexander Yu, attended a separate watch party in the Capitol building, an area
02:05designated for ticketed guests after the ceremony was moved inside.
02:09Han expressed optimism about the future of U.S.-Taiwan ties under a second Trump presidency.
02:25But on his first day in office, Trump is prioritizing domestic policies.
