00:00The Bureau of Internal Revenue filed a case last year for 1.7 billion pesos in tax liabilities.
00:10The agency was also involved in the case of ghost receipts.
00:13Alvin Baltazar of Radyo Pilipinas with the national news.
00:19The Bureau of Internal Revenue filed a case last year for 1.7 billion pesos in tax liabilities.
00:27According to BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagi Jr.,
00:30a large company filed a complaint with the Department of Justice
00:34as well as the court connected to the cigarette and vape industry.
00:38The illegal activity of Lumagi is also linked to their large-scale campaign against tax evaders
00:44that they carried out through the enforcement activities such as raids.
00:50To the people of this large company, Lumagi said,
00:52it has been proven that they really have no intention of paying the right tax.
00:58Based on what we filed in 2024,
01:01the estimated tax liabilities that we were charged with are around 1.7 billion pesos.
01:10But the other ones that we filed are pending in the DOJ,
01:13but there are also some that were filed in the court.
01:16Also, according to the BIR Chief,
01:17they are targeting the ghost receipts or pecking receipts
01:21as one of the reasons why the government's large collection is lost.
01:25Not only did Lumagi buy the pecking receipts that they included in the case,
01:31but also those who sell ghost receipts.
01:35Even the accountants who are involved in the illegal activity,
01:37according to the BIR Chief,
01:39will not be able to file a case against them
01:41because they will not be able to do so
01:44if they do not participate.
01:47According to Lumagi,
01:49there will be more cases against the large companies
01:53that buy the pecking receipts.
01:56I expect that in the next few weeks,
01:59there will be more cases against the large companies
02:02that buy the pecking receipts.
02:05If we talk about the target collection of the agency last year,
02:08which was 2.848 trillion pesos in 2024,
02:13they definitely exceeded it.
02:15Lumagi continues to reconcile the data
02:19and they will be able to get the final figure on the first week of February.
02:24They say that at the moment,
02:25they are already collecting 2.86 trillion pesos for 2024.
02:31However, this will increase
02:34a few more days to finish the calculation of the total value
02:38of the collected receipts last year.
02:42For Balitang Pampansa,
02:43Alvin Baltazar of Radyo Pilipinas.
