00:00So Ari and I both have new songs in it, and Stephen Schwartz wrote...
00:03Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're taking you through all the facts and maybe a few
00:08speculations we have so far for Wicked Part 2, or as we now know it, Wicked for Good.
00:14When are you brave enough to pop your own bubble
00:17to actually face the things that you were too scared to face in movie one?
00:20On December 16th, 2024, Wicked's social media team gave us an early Christmas present,
00:25revealing that Wicked Part 2 would actually be called Wicked for Good.
00:29As fans of the show know, For Good is one of the final tunes and arguably
00:33the beating heart of Elphaba and Glinda's story.
00:40In addition to this name update, the post also confirmed the film's slated theatrical release
00:45date, November 21st, 2025. Yep, that's right folks, if everything goes to plan,
00:51that is a year-long intermission. Given where we left the story,
00:54it only makes sense that all our key players should return for Part 2.
00:58Indeed, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are back, as are Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater,
01:04Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Marissa Bode, among others.
01:08We can also expect to see Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James again,
01:11and let's just say that Dr. Dillamond, voiced by Peter Dinklage's story, isn't over yet either.
01:16You can take away my job, but I shall continue speaking out.
01:20Listen to me, you're not being told the whole story.
01:24Naturally, we can expect to see some new faces too, not to mention more cameos.
01:29Part 1 is a veritable who's who of the musical theater world,
01:43with countless Broadway and West End stars appearing. If you heard that your favorite
01:47star was supposed to be in the movie but couldn't spot them, there's a good chance
01:51their cameo is still coming. For instance, former West End Elphaba and Glinda,
01:57Carey Ellis, and Diane Pilkington have confirmed that their appearances are yet to come.
02:02Now, there's one person who made a brief cameo in Part 1 who is set to play a more
02:07significant role in For Good, but first they need to take a little trip over the rainbow.
02:12Way above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me.
02:24The first look trailer for Wicked Part 1 gives us a sneak peek at Dorothy and her companions,
02:29and mirrors some familiar scenes from The Wizard of Oz.
02:33Bring her to me.
02:36We also see her in one of Part 1's earliest shots, holding the witch's broom. In the stage
02:41version, she's mostly an offstage character, briefly appearing as a shadow during the
02:45melting scene. So could her role be expanded in the film? Well, on one hand, director John
02:50M. Chu didn't want to mess with audiences' perceptions of the character, but inevitably,
02:55these two stories must cross paths. You cursed rat! Look what you've done! I'm melting! Melting!
03:02Oh, what a world! What a world! Who would've thought a good little girl like you could
03:07destroy my beautiful wickedness! Still, he's playing coy about how much screen time she'll
03:13actually have, if any. As of writing, we also don't know who's been cast in the role,
03:18but there's been buzz that it could be Alicia Weir, known for the 2022 movie Matilda the Musical.
03:23Nobody else is gonna put it right for me. Nobody but me is gonna change my story.
03:30Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.
03:33Okay, so we know that elements from The Wizard of Oz will probably pop up,
03:37but what else can we expect? Chu noted,
03:40Movie one's about choices, movie two's about consequences.
03:43At the end of the last story, Elphaba rejects the wizard's regime and heads to the western skies,
03:48while Glinda stays behind. Act two will explore how their choices impact their lives and
03:53relationships. I really hope you get it, and you don't live to regret it. I hope you're happy in
04:02the end. We'll also likely see more development in the complex love web between Elphaba, Fiyero,
04:10Glinda, Bok, and Nessaros, and how that leads to the latter stepping into her role as the
04:15Wicked Witch of the East. As in the show, we imagine For Good will bring us full circle
04:20to where this whole story began. Yes, the Wicked Witch of the West is dead.
04:28As we saw in part one, the story mostly stayed true to the original, but added depth through
04:33new scenes and dialogue. Since part two is titled For Good, we can assume the song's themes will
04:38play a big role in the plot. And now whatever way our stories end,
04:46hope you have rewritten mine by being my friend.
04:53Chu hinted that a montage of the friends together, filmed for part one but ultimately unused,
04:58could appear in part two. Glimpses of it were spotted in the teaser trailer and other
05:03promotional media. The teaser also shows Elphaba encountering yellow bricks,
05:08referencing the yellow brick road she and Glinda helped design.
05:11Wait, just go back one, please. The yellow relay?
05:16Yes. It just says road to me.
05:18There's even a shot many think is from Glinda's wedding, but it's probably not what it seems,
05:23so we're curious to see what that's all about. Part one made some pretty interesting changes
05:28from the stage version.
05:29Absolutely remarkable. Once you learn to harness your emotion, the sky's the limit.
05:39They added new characters, expanded on some of the ones we already know,
05:43and even brought back a couple from Gregory Maguire's novel.
05:46They also expanded on scenes like Madame Morrible's sorcery classes and Elphaba's childhood.
05:52Elphaba! Elphaba Brock! What have you done this time?
05:56Okay, that's okay, come to daddy. And now you've made your sister cry.
05:59Some storylines were completely rewritten, like how Elphaba gets into Shiz and her first meeting
06:04with Fiyero. Several of the musical numbers received a makeover too, including Something
06:09Bad, Popular, Defying Gravity, and of course, One Short Day.
06:15Chu shared that for part one, they worked backward from the end to see which moments
06:19they could really dig into, giving a better look at what motivates the characters' actions.
06:24It looks like part two will have a similar approach. Perhaps they'll pull more from
06:28The Wizard of Oz to see what the show could look like after part one.
06:32But for Part 1, they worked backward from the end to see which moments they could really
06:36dig into, giving a better look at what motivates the characters' actions.
06:48It looks like Part 2 will have a similar approach.
06:51Perhaps they'll pull more from The Wizard of Oz to help expand the story,
06:55working backward from For Good to figure out how everything leads to that point.
06:59Marissa Bodie, who plays Nessa Rose, also mentioned that a key scene with her silver
07:03slippers has been reimagined from a less ableist perspective.
07:07One of the reasons they decided to split Wicked into two parts is not just that anything after
07:11Defying Gravity would feel like a letdown.
07:14It also lets them tell a complete story without cutting off the stuff that fans really love,
07:18like Stephen Schwartz's amazing soundtrack.
07:31Just like all the songs from Act 1 made it into the first film, we're expecting For
07:35Good to do the same.
07:36Chu hinted that the film will include The Wicked Witch of the East, which was omitted
07:41from the original Broadway soundtrack because, well, it's essentially one big spoiler.
07:46In Part 1, the closest we get to new music was an extended version of One Short Day.
08:05But now, it's confirmed that there will be two new songs in the next part.
08:09Arevo, who plays Elphaba, mentioned on Variety's Award Circuit podcast that she worked with
08:14Schwartz on a new song for her character.
08:16She didn't reveal too much, but she said, quote,
08:18"'When we filmed it, the entire crew was in tears.
08:21I hope audiences are ready.
08:23It's a song that really captures who Elphaba is.'"
08:25Grande also shared that Glinda will have a brand new song that she called, quote,
08:38"'a pivotal moment in Glinda's journey.'"
08:41Apparently, we'll explore more of her transition from that girl who watched her friend fly
08:44away to becoming Glinda the Good.

09:11Although the film has been divided into two parts, production for both was carried out
09:15simultaneously.
09:16Chu expressed his intention to move through post-production as if it were one long, continuous
09:21film, ensuring that each scene in the first part had a clear purpose for the second part.
09:26However, this doesn't mean he can't still
09:36make adjustments.
09:37It has been reported that he took a break from editing leading up to and during the
09:41release of Part 1, but he returned to it shortly afterward, leaving us wondering what changes
09:46might be made.
10:06He also hinted at a darker tone for Part 2, calling it a doozy, and encouraging everyone
10:11to watch both parts in succession, saying, quote,
10:14What are you hoping to see in Wicked for Good?
