00:00More news coming in, stand by for Sanjay Roy's quantum of punishment that's going to be pronounced
00:06by the court today in Sialda, in fact the Sialda court is going to be talking about
00:12it.
00:13Now the rapist in court said that I was framed without any reason, that's what the rapist
00:19has said in court today.
00:20In fact he has been saying this even when he was found guilty and was pronounced guilty
00:26by the court on Saturday, he said that he was not guilty, he's claimed innocence.
00:32Kolkata cops have brought the rapist Sanjay Roy to the courtroom is what we are learning
00:41from our reporters on the ground.
00:44We straight across to Suryagni, Suryagni give us an idea about what exactly is happening
00:48inside court.
00:50Ahead of the denouncement of the judgement by the judge who found Sanjay Roy guilty on
00:57Saturday, Sanjay was allowed to speak after he was found convicted, he was allowed to
01:04speak today and that is where once again he reiterated to stand, he has time and again
01:09stated that he is being framed, he is not guilty and he's being framed, that is something
01:16that Sanjay time and again has stated, not just the first time that he's saying so, but
01:22in numerous court proceedings he has maintained this particular stance and let's not forget
01:27that when he spoke to his lawyer almost five months back, he had stated openly that Sanjay
01:34wanted the polygraph test to happen because what Sanjay had told the lawyer was that he
01:42was being framed, hence the polygraph test would be beneficiary, however whatever came
01:47out in the polygraph test that was extremely contrary to the claims that Sanjay had made,
01:52Sanjay still reiterates, maintains his stance that he's being framed, however the investigation
02:00and the investigation reports are extremely contrary to whatever Sanjay has claimed right
02:06now and minutes from now the quantum of the punishment will be pronounced, as we were
02:14speaking about it on Saturday itself that in the past two, two and a half months, cases
02:19which were related to convicts who were related to rape and murder or rape and murder
02:25specifically in the state of Kolkata, in the state of West Bengal, these convicts have been
02:30given a death penalty, on Friday itself an incident of hook up in Hooghly, the verdict was
02:37pronounced wherein death penalty was rolled out to that convict, so the judgement can be on
02:43those lines and you know if it's on those lines then it's not going to be something that's
02:52going to come out as a surprise because let's not forget various people, the civil society
02:58members, doctors, politicians, artists, everyone has claimed that, so let us bring Amitabh
03:04Banerjee once again, just some 15-20 minutes, you know 15-20 minutes back, that you know
03:11the harshest punishment should be given out in such cases of rape and murder, the harshest
03:16punishment being death penalty, so it has to be seen in a while from now, Neha, that
03:22whether death penalty is given to him or not or it's a lifelong imprisonment for Sanjay Roy, back to you.
03:30Also, he's in a bizarre way made that Rudraksh argument again in court that he had made on
03:36Saturday as well saying that if I would have committed the crime it would have broken isn't
03:40it, Sanjay Roy, they're trying to say that he isn't behind this.
03:44Well, Sanjay Roy has been claiming various things in the past five months and what we
03:50have to understand is that on paper what the investigators have found, precisely the CBI
03:55because they have been handling this case, they have you know claimed that it is Sanjay
04:00Roy who was behind this and he's the only person who's involved in this, this is what
04:06the CBI has claimed and that's what their investigation has you know, they've been
04:10Right, so it has to be seen and on both documentation and investigation reports, it is the you know the court has found Sanjay Roy to be guilty and that was announced on Saturday itself, now today, in a short while from now as we have been seeing, the quantum of the punishments will be announced, the quantum of the punishments, there are two options to this entire quantum of the punishments, one of which is the death penalty and the other one is the lifelong imprisonment for Sanjay Roy, so it has to be seen in a while from now, Neha, that whether death penalty is given to him or not or it's a lifelong imprisonment for Sanjay Roy, back to you.
04:40Quantum theory, firstly, it can be death penalty, where he'll be handcuffed dead and secondly,
04:48it can be life imprisonment but as I've been mentioning that various sections of the society,
04:52be it political or non-political, artists or not, they have called for the harshest punishment for
04:59anyone involved in such kind of gruesome criminal activity, criminal incident and in the past one,
05:07one and a half, two months, the convicts of rape and murder cases in the state of West Bengal,
05:12they have been given death penalty, so as I have been saying since that day that if death penalty
05:18is awarded, then it will not come as quite a shocker or it won't be a very surprising element,
05:23now if you know something else like the life imprisonment is rolled out, then you know it can
05:28come out as a surprise but the way things have been going on in the state and you know the demands
05:34and the way the judge, you know, spoke his, you know, heart out on Saturday, it has to be seen
05:41which way, you know, he will roll out the quantum of punishment and if, as I mentioned, if death
05:49penalty is pronounced, then it will not be, you know, a shocker in this case. Oh yes, you know,
05:56I just want to also ask you, Suryagini, as far as this case is concerned, a lot has been said by
06:02the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, there's been a big political slugfest but today the Chief
06:07Minister came out and said that they want the harshest punishment, death penalty for Sanjara
06:12is something that the BJP has also been saying, adding that there's a cover-up here, there are
06:16more people in this entire case involved and they essentially have been shielded.
06:23Well, you know, the politics over this case had started way back, it was in
06:28August itself, wherein various political parties who are in the opposition, they claim that,
06:34you know, the state is trying to hide facts and, you know, they are trying to shield someone
06:40but the investigation hasn't really, you know, proven anything on those thoughts as of now.
06:46I'm a PCR, the evidence and, you know, the investigation has done by the CBI that has
06:52proven that Sanjara Roy is the person, the sole person involved in this particular
06:57crime and, you know, that's the reason why he was pronounced guilty. Having said that, you know,
07:04various political or the political bodies, they have time and again mentioned that
07:10whosoever is the, you know, the person behind it, harshest punishment should be rolled out to that
07:16individual or those individuals. As of now, the prime accused who's been convicted is Sanjara
07:22Roy. The CBI has mentioned that it is Sanjara Roy and he was the only person involved in this
07:27particular gruesome rape murder which had shocked the entire state and the country and, you know,
07:36and Namta Banerjee, she herself had time and again said that the harshest punishment should
07:40be given out to anyone who's involved in such gruesome incidents. So, it has to be seen on
07:47what lines the quantum of punishment comes out but yet, you know, we have seen how politics played
07:53out in relation to this particular, you know, gruesome incident wherein be it the left,
08:00be it the BJP, be it the song that they took on the Namta Banerjee government and once, you know,
08:07it was proven that Sanjara Roy is the only person involved in this gruesome case, the government
08:14stand rather the party stand was simple. That time and again, misinformation was spread
08:20by various political individuals for their own, you know, for their own political gain
08:25and it was done to somewhere provoke the, the muscles against the government.
08:31So, that politics will, you know, continue and once the quantum of punishment is announced,
08:37I can assure you that there will be allegations and counter allegations on the state government
08:43by various political parties, be it the BJP or the left. However, what is very important to see
08:49is that what is the quantum of punishment that will be given out to Sanjara. All right, the CBI
08:55meanwhile arguing in court that this is the rarest of the rare case and the victim was a meritorious
08:59student is what the CBI has said in court and that she was the asset of the society. This incident
09:05has shaken the society and they have in fact said that only death penalty can bring confidence
09:11to the society is what the CBI in court has said.
