00:00Rowing Olympian and coach Benji Tolentino is confident that their preparation for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand will be a success this year in December.
00:13That's what teammate and Daryl Oclares have to say.
00:18Rowing is one of the returning sports in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
00:25In 2021, rowing was included in the Biennial Multisport Event, where the Philippine rowing team won two silver and eight bronze medals.
00:36Now, the SEA Games will be held again.
00:38Our national rowers are more motivated to prove that the country is one of the powerhouses in the sport.
00:45The country's morale is also high now because it's only been a hundred years since Giovanni Delgaco made history as the first Filipino to participate in the Olympics.
00:56According to Rowing Olympian and coach Benji Tolentino, this momentum is strong. Their preparations for the SEA Games will be a success.
01:07The team is very prepared for the SEA Games.
01:11They will hire foreign coach from Germany.
01:16That German coach has a lot of plans.
01:22If he can qualify for the SEA Games, he can train in Germany because there are top rowers, Olympic champions and world-caliber.
01:33Once you join their competition and you adapt the way of racing to them, when you come here to Southeast Asia, you will have a chance.
01:44Tolentino added that they are already developing their grassroots rowers and they can't wait to give them a chance to compete in Thailand.
01:54Our grassroots rowers are forced to train in La Mesa Dam so that they can be part of the selection for the SEA Games because of the potential of the kids.
02:07Imagine 14, 13, 15. I started to be a national team player when I was 22 years old in rowing.
02:14Their progress is still big.
02:19Sydney Olympian and five-time SEA Games gold medalist also has a message for the new generation of national rowers.
02:27Of course, keep training hard. That's the key to success.
02:35As I always say to my son, Atis, because Atis is a member of the national team.
02:40You always need to beat yourself in every training. You need to motivate yourself to excel.
02:48Gary Loclares for Atletang Pilipino for Bagong Pilipinas.
