00:00It's a different era.

00:02We really want this to be the most accurate medical show that we've ever had on TV.

00:06Welcome to the pit. Let's go save some lives.

00:09We want people to feel as if you went to Pittsburgh,

00:12you would actually be able to walk into the hospital and find these people.

00:15The emergency department is such an amazing place

00:18because all society's ills pass through those doors.

00:22Not responding to Narcan, we might need to intubate.

00:25The format of one day is really special and specific.

00:29We wanted to build a pressure cooker,

00:31and we figured the best way to build that pressure cooker would be to tell the story in real time.

00:36Each hour-long episode represents one hour in the shift that we're working.

00:41We shoot in continuity, so it's very much like being on a live stage.

00:45Cameras go up and we just go, and it does feel like you're doing theater.

00:50The lines come rapid fire, the procedure comes rapid fire, patients are coming at you.

00:55That's called being an emergency medicine doctor.

00:58My character sort of epitomizes the plight of the healthcare worker.

01:02In a profession where expressing vulnerability is frowned upon,

01:06you run the risk of one day those things coming to call once again.

01:10I feel like the show is doing a really good job of representing the toll that COVID took on the ER.

01:17There has been an appropriate amount of space since the pandemic

01:23for us to start talking about not only what happened to emergency workers during that moment,

01:28but the fact that those marks are still there.

01:31I hope that healthcare professionals will watch it and really see themselves and their stories reflected in this.

01:37They're really doing an extraordinary thing for us in taking care of us in these difficult situations.

01:43Really, it's a love letter to first responders and those people who take care of us.
