00:00The Myanmar crisis and the South China Sea dispute are expected to be discussed by ASEAN

00:07foreign ministers at their retreat this weekend.

00:11Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Amran Zin said the South China Sea dispute will be taken

00:17up following progress being made on a Declaration of Conduct of Parties in the Region and the

00:22negotiations to finalise the Code of Conduct.

00:26We are making progress as far as COC is concerned, at least at the working level, the joint working

00:33group on the DOC has completed the third reading of the single negotiating text.

00:40So now we are having discussion internally with ASEAN and also with China how we determine

00:47the next step in terms of negotiation on COC.

00:53The Declaration of Conduct, a non-binding framework for managing tensions, was signed

00:58in 2002 by ASEAN members and China with negotiations on the Code of Conduct to conclude in 2026.

01:07This reaffirms commitments to freedom of navigation, peaceful resolution of disputes, and self-restraint

01:14in maritime activities.

01:16Amran said the Myanmar crisis, as well as issues like online scams and human trafficking,

01:22would be discussed at the retreat.

01:25He said Myanmar's situation has been on ASEAN's agenda since the military coup four years

01:30ago, while efforts to help the country resolve the crisis are ongoing.
