00:00The buzz around here in Dallas, the last couple of days has been about a potential Dion Sanders
00:20match with the Cowboys as head coach. Just, you know, as we look at, at potential of Dion
00:26coming here, but also just the, the track that he's had going to Jackson state and Colorado.
00:31When you were coaching Dion, did you ever get the sense that, Hey, I think one day he's
00:35the, the, this seems like a path that he'd like to take or something. I think he'd be
00:38really good at is, is being a head coach, you know, either at a college program or at
00:41the NFL level.
00:42Well, the interesting thing there is that, you know, back in my day, there weren't a
00:48lot of ex players getting into the coaching business because, you know, obviously their
00:53work schedule other than physical was not the same as a coach. So a lot of guys and,
00:58and financially, you know, what they did and on the, uh, playing, uh, situation compared
01:05to what coaches were making. Now it's a little bit different. The one thing I do know about
01:10Dion was one thing I didn't coach and Zimmer didn't coach Dion from a technique standpoint
01:18or anything like that, because you know, that was not his strength. His strength was
01:23athletic ability. But the one thing people didn't realize he was one of the smartest
01:27players I ever coached. All we did with Dion was say, Hey, look, here's who you're covering,
01:34study him and play ball. And really that is what a coach does. I mean, especially a head
01:42coach. He's a guy that understands the game, uh, is willing to work at it. And he studied
01:48more than anybody. I know he knew his opponent. He knew, you know, what we were doing defensively.
01:55Those are the things that helped him be great along with his athletic ability. So it doesn't
02:00surprise me. And he was a leader from the standpoint of what he did. And I think that
02:07that goes a long way when he walks into a room today, you know, he walks in with some
02:12Superbowl trophies. He walks in with some, some great, uh, pro ball, uh, deals. And he's
02:19a tremendous salesman and a marketer. And I think that bodes well, especially in the
02:23Dallas, uh, you know, that, that, uh, whole aura in the Cowboys.
