00:47before candidates filed their certificates of candidacy in October 2024.
00:52The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism obtained data from Nielsen Adintel, which
00:57monitors candidates' spending.
00:59It says 100 candidates aired TV spots worth P3.7 billion and radio spots worth P342 million
01:07from January to September in 2024.
01:09PCIJ says TV remains an important medium to reach voters while digital platforms widen
01:15the reach.
01:16The candidates also had billboards all over the country worth P70 million and ads on print
01:21media worth P18 million.
01:24Las Pinas' Rep. Kamil Villar and Sen. Aimee Marcos each had ads worth P1 billion before
01:30the COC filing based on published rate cards.
01:34The amounts do not include the two candidates' spending on social media nor the cost of producing
01:38the advertisements, the maintenance of their campaign offices, and salaries of campaign
01:42staff.
01:43In the party list race, Vendor's Party List Group is the top ad spender at P12.25 million.
01:50The group's fourth nominee is Deo Balbuena, popular online as Diwata.
01:56Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office says on Friday, January 17, the cabinet
02:01will meet to approve a deal with Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages
02:06set on Sunday, January 19.
02:09This amid the concerns that the agreement may face delays.
02:12Israel had postponed the meetings originally scheduled for Thursday when the cabinet was
02:16expected to vote on the deal, blaming Hamas for the delay.
02:20The delay was due to disagreements over the identities of prisoners Hamas wanted released.
02:24However, early on Friday, Netanyahu's office says approval was imminent, with the security
02:29cabinet set to meet before the full cabinet ratifies the deal.
02:33The agreement includes a six-week ceasefire, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, and
02:37the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
02:41Meantime, Israeli airstrikes continue despite the truce announcement, with at least 86 people
02:46reportedly killed.
02:50Pope Francis injures his right forearm after a fall in his residence on Thursday, January

03:36The Philippine Sports Writers Association, or PSA, will honor Diaz in its Hall of Fame

03:44This comes nearly four years after she won the country's first-ever Olympic gold medal
03:48in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
03:51Diaz also won a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
03:55She represented the Philippines in four consecutive Olympic Games, including the 2008 Beijing
04:00and 2012 London Olympiads.
04:03Diaz will become the youngest member of the PSA Hall of Fame at 33.
