Dominic Scurr reflects on Eddie Howe's Newcastle United pre-match press conference v Bournemouth.
Transcript
00:00Dom Skr here, back outside the Newcastle United Media Centre where we've been
00:05speaking to Eddie Howe ahead of Newcastle United's Premier League match
00:08against Bournemouth at St. James's Park on Saturday, the early kickoff. Newcastle
00:14looking to make it 10 wins in a row in all competitions which would represent a
00:20club record and making history potentially for Eddie Howe and his
00:26players but just looking ahead to the game we'll start on the injury front no
00:31fresh injuries reported by Eddie Howe but as always you take that with a pinch
00:36of salt. Fabian Scherr who missed Wednesday's game due to illness has
00:40returned to training but Eddie Howe said he's not a hundred percent so they'll
00:43make a late call on him. What that possibly suggests and I'm hypothesising
00:49here is Sven Botman would keep his place in the side if Fabian Scherr hasn't
00:54really been at full tilt in training and has been ill. Eddie Howe described it
00:59as a nasty illness, a nasty cough so when you have a cough as well, breathing
01:05fitness is naturally affected so I'd expect Sven Botman to keep his place in
01:10the side and why not he's been performing well after such a long time
01:13out hasn't really missed a beat so far. Then also on the injury front obviously
01:18Nick Pope was given six weeks recovery time after doing his knee, it's a very informal way to put it, against Brentford six weeks ago so his sort of prognosis to
01:32return would be this weekend but Eddie Howe said not this weekend expect him to
01:36return to training next week and then you're looking at potentially Southampton
01:39next weekend but even then given Newcastle's form with Martin Dubravka
01:44in goal the clean sheets they've kept I mean it's five clean sheets in six
01:47Premier League games with Martin Dubravka in goal, seven in the ten games he's played
01:52this season all of them being wins so why change that so could see Nick Pope
01:57return on the bench but likely to be next week and then obviously the big
02:01news this week on transfers Eddie Howe was asked about transfers Miguel
02:07Almiron, Lloyd Kelly being the two this week Eddie Howe gave nothing away after
02:14the Wolves game on Miguel Almiron he said I'll be preparing for the game I know
02:17nothing whether or not he knew nothing I'm not sure but today he did give a
02:23little bit more away he seemed more receptive to the idea of losing
02:29Almiron or was more open in discussing it he said we'll see what happens with
02:36Almiron at the moment he is at the club he's training and will be in the squad
02:42tomorrow whether he'll be in the squad next week wait and see because Eddie
02:48Howe said Miguel Almiron has an important role to play until we no longer
02:52have him so basically addressing the fact that Newcastle in the near future
02:57may not be with Miguel Almiron with a deal lined up to see him join his former
03:04club or rejoin his former club Atlanta United in the region of 10 million pounds
03:10and also asked about Lloyd Kelly following an approach and a bid from
03:15Turkish club Fenerbahce Newcastle rejected that bid and Eddie Howe was
03:22asked about Lloyd Kelly and his future he said look it's been difficult for
03:25Lloyd Kelly as a new signing hasn't really had the games he would have
03:29wanted or the game time he would have wanted but he hasn't expressed any desire
03:34to leave the club and Eddie Howe then said the transfer in this sort of
03:41situation has been fueled purely from a Fenerbahce side they've had we've seen
03:46the Fenerbahce vice president speak about wanting to sign Lloyd Kelly
03:50Newcastle have no intention on losing him this month so Miguel Almiron looks
03:57to be heading out heading out the door at Newcastle but will still be here for
04:02the time being for this weekend at least we'll wait and see from there but
04:06following on from that Eddie Howe was asked about well if you lose Almiron
04:11puts you in a little bit of a precarious situation in terms of your winger
04:16situation where you've got Harvey Barnes out injured for a month
04:19Jacob Murphy's playing well but you may be an injury away from another sort of
04:24crisis in terms of the out wide positions so Eddie Howe said asked about
04:30do you strengthen in those positions or if you were to lose a player do you
04:36do you strengthen do you look to sign someone and basically dodged the
04:40question slightly said maybe not quite that simple but it decisions are made
04:46based on business rather than football in a PSR world so it's more just saying
04:51we'll wait and see in that regard so that pretty much sums up the newsy lines
04:58from Eddie Howe's press conference obviously there'll be more to come over
05:02on the Shields Gazette looking ahead to the Bournemouth game I'll be at St.
05:06James's Park tomorrow joined by my colleague Joe Buck so all the previews
05:11for that game all the reaction all the player ratings everything you need in
05:15terms of your matchday coverage and press conference coverage will be over
05:19on the Shields Gazette so please check that out and thanks for watching cheers
