00:00Again in 2024, unfortunately we've seen that 60% of the rescues that our

00:05volunteers have been involved in are preventable. That's vessels running out

00:08of fuel, not having the correct safety equipment, batteries running flat and

00:13again importantly, unfortunately too many boaters are not logging on with Marine

00:16Rescue NSW. It doesn't matter the time of the day and that's the

00:20wonderful thing about our volunteers across Marine Rescue NSW. It

00:24doesn't matter whether they're at home, at their base, they're ready to respond,

00:28ready to take that call and swing into action to support the boaters of New

00:31South Wales. Year in year out we're seeing an increasing boating down in the

00:36Illawarra and that's shown in Marine Rescue NSW statistics throughout

00:392024. Our volunteers right across the Illawarra region have been well engaged

00:44and again it's a reminder to boaters in that area to take the right

00:48safety precautions, make sure that they've got the right safety equipment

00:51on board their vessel and importantly in that area that they're checking the

00:54weather. Prep now, boat later, make sure that you've got the right safety

00:58equipment, make sure that you check the weather before you go out and

01:01importantly log on with your local Marine Rescue base.
