00:00Implementation of four-year UG program, a new comprehensive and holistic curriculum framework was formed by the experts.
00:11The new curriculum gives emphasis to experiential learning and self-learning.
00:18The methodologies of teaching are expected to be changed accordingly.
00:23The UG curriculum was formed with a way to inculcate research capacity even in the early years of higher education.
00:33This curriculum has research, skilling and training for jobs and entrepreneurship as its major objectives.
00:43Skilling is undertaken with utmost importance in order to bridge up the gap between education and employment.
00:52Both employability enhancement and encouragement of research aptitude are ensured by the new curriculum.
01:02This two-pronged approach linking education and employment on the one hand and the production of new knowledges on the other hand
01:11has started to create positive transformation in campus atmosphere.
01:18Students to do research, translate their knowledge into useful products, hand-hold the industries through research projects, internships and meaningful collaborations.
01:33The students are to be trained to use their agency capacity to remedy the problems existing in society by assuming the role of producer of knowledge capable of creating valuable changes in society and social life.
01:53At present we have two major projects called Industry on Campus and Connect Career to Campus and the higher education institutions are trying their level best to build innovation, incubation, startup ecosystem in their institutions.
02:12Freedom, flexibility and choice have become key words of these transformations and they are now more real than they have ever been.
02:25Students are permitted to design their degrees by choosing which courses to study to complete the credit requirements and they have now been encouraged to choose between a skill oriented honours and a research oriented honours to choose their careers and match their studies to their chosen careers.
02:49Along with these changes we have to carry forward the mammoth task of reorienting our faculty to the requirements of mapping the courses to desired outcomes without necessarily compromising on the humanness that we have always valued in education.
03:11A revised curriculum is never complete without an equally revamped examination system. We have revised our examinations to escape being the end of the term terror they have sometimes been but to become a more trustworthy measure of the students academic attainments.
03:35With a unified academic calendar examinations are now conducted almost at the same time. Results declared soon after the exams and supplementary chances are provided to students at the start of the next term itself.
03:52If internship and skill gap reduction are aimed at improving the employability of our graduates the innovation incubation startup ecosystem is being built up in our institutions to encourage entrepreneurship in our youths turning them to employers rather than employees.
04:14This also will improve the economy by establishing knowledge economy which is a model that Kerala intends to promote. By developing a knowledge economy we are planning to utilise knowledge which is our greatest capital to expand Kerala's economic foundations and to elevate people's standards of living.
04:38The establishment of a knowledge economy entails more research both in quantitative and in qualitative terms. We need more research establishments, more researchers and greater output. The government has started the process of establishing more research establishments.
